Fat taskbar without fat icons

Recommended Posts

You can get a Win7-like taskbar by increasing the size of the "title bar" in Display Properties. Wide taskbar is easier to see in high-resolution monitors, and much easier to aim at with a remote mouse in a HTPC. Example below, with titlebar set to 34 pixels. That allows for full-size icons in the taskbar, very nice.

But you can see the problem, some of the controls also resize to 32 pixels. That includes icons and check-boxes. XP is even worse because the Start menu becomes gigantic too, whereas in Win2k menus are not affected.

Is there a way to hack the Scheme settings in the registry so as to control the size of the other controls?

Incidentally, you can get fat Tabs in Firefox by adding the following in userChrome.css

/* Tab bar: Custom Tab Height */
.tabbrowser-tab {
height: 50px !important;
min-height: 50px !important;
max-height: 50px !important;
}

dunno if this work under win2000, but if you aim at win7 taskbar try ViGlance http://lee-soft.com/viglance/

if it does work you can easily edit images and set it to classic look

Unfortunately ViGlance doesn't work in Windows 2000. In the past I tested several such applications and there was actually just one which did work in Windows 2000 and provided a Windows 7 look-alike taskbar. I don't remember its name though. It was quite resource-heavy anyway.
