Aero Glass for Win8 RC4

Recommended Posts

This is the problem that I've been having for a little while now.

http://puu.sh/33vd6.jpg

I have to keep disabling/re-enabling Aero Glass through AGTweaker in order to get the blur in the taskbar back. Right now, it is completely transparent.

Here's my debug log. Had to upload to Dropbox. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/11231941/Debug.log

Hope it helps.

Restart windows explorer... :boring:

Yeah. Restarted the whole computer, still completely transparent. Your solution isnt one. Perhaps you didn't read what I said. If I disable/enable glass, the taskbar will have blur for a while. After some time though, it will become completely transparent without me restarting Explorer or anything. It is transparent right now, if I turn off glass and turn it back on via AGTweaker, it will have blur again. That is a workaround, not a solution. That is the point to the entire post.

:thumbup for being sarcastic and being wrong, amirite?

raiden89 : there is only one reason for this. You have some application which periodically disables blur on taskbar.

Welp, I have Cyberfox, Skype, Process Hacker, Dropbox, Teamviewer, Rainmeter, AeroRainbow, RocketDock, and Puush running most of the time along with the Mail app. I sometimes watch movies or something in Media Center or Media Player and watch stuff in the browser.

So it would have to be one of them, but I would not know which. Either way, regardless of what is running, the blur shouldn't change. Why would it change in the taskbar and not the titlebars, etc because of the same application if that is the case? I gave you that debug log, shouldn't there be something in it?

Are you using SIB, Start8 or other software to re-enable the start menu?

Because titlebars are maintained by DWM, taskbar is not - it is component of Windows Explorer. DWM (via my DLL) only renders the blur effect behind those controls which has been marked to be blurred (without any knowledge what the control really is or where it belongs to). If something disables blur on taskbar, it will have no blur.

I use Start8. I just checked the setting to "disable taskbar translucency" in the options and it brought the blur back. So, its possible Start8 is disabling the blur? Didnt think of that.

BigMuscle, did you see my last post (#1878) with my most recently updated theme file?

http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/161788-aero-glass-for-win8-rc2/page__view__findpost__p__1041175

I think the hint of rounded corners, yet the squarer, slightly flatter controls says "a better Windows 8 desktop" pretty nicely. Of course I'm willing to tweak the file any way you'd like, just let me know. You already have my eMail address if you'd like to take the conversation private.

But you're right; the ability to load full themes at run time, if you can pull that off, would please a WHOLE lot of folks who feel uncomfortable with changing their system files, and take your product to whole new level beyond your already impressive achievement.

Seems to be aligned nicely now. I added transparency to the buttons again: https://www.dropbox.com/s/8zo8orea8ehspy5/AlternateThemeNewTransp.png

Edit: Actually, I'm not sure if anyone else noticed, but, the Shadow on those themes affect the Steam windows aswell. And possible some element of the glow. I think I noticed it before but I tested some of the other themes without shadow and the Steam windows lost the shadow too. :)
