Which AV tool do you run? Do a clean boot without any 3rd party tools/services and try to install the updates.

I have the basic windows defender bundled with windows 8. Should I disable that, reboot and try again? (How do I clean boot)?

EDIT: Partial success I think. That update I think has installed. Still having problems with the store error message though.

Whenever updates/apps are trying to install from the store? I am getting a this app wasn't installed view details and that tells me that:

Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Please try again. Error code: 0x8007064a

Problems over. I just decided for the sake of it to refresh the whole PC. Life is good again :) (Refresh not totally format)
