wzperson
I just got my broadband access (FTTP + LAN) yesterday. But unfortunately, I only have been assigned to an internal IP address start from 10.*.*.* It causes many problem in communicating especially in Video and Audio communication. I can start the Video feature in MSN Messenger when I access to Internet through dail-up connection. But now I cannot do that via broadband accession. How can I solve the problems? Anyone has some contructive suggestions? Thanks
Aaron
Some IP Routing needs to be configured in your NAT software or Hardware Router. But I don't know how.Check www.PraticallyNetworked.com
babis
I'm a bit confused.Assumptions:1. When using broadband connection, you use a firewall/router(NAT)2. When using dialup (modem), you don't go thru it.Limitations:Most routers will try to block some of the IM functions, unless you open those specific ports and get them runningSolution:if that's the case.. then try disabling the firewall settings in ur router.. u can do so by assiging ur IP (the fake one from the router) to have a zero value in DMZ.. but as aaron mentioned that site has excellent information... if u get stuck.. feel free to post here and I'll try to see what i can doInformaiton: (OPTIONAL READING...basically u don't need to read it)When you have a router, the only digits that you would change as a home user are the last 3 ones... if you have a class C (using ipv4) .. unless ur a major establishment and have a class B (using ipv4) so when u have say 192.168.1.xxx (the variables are xxx) using C classthe total avialble using ipv4.. would be 2^32... about 4billions ipsargh.. if I'm not mistaken.. i'm right.. feel free to correct my ramblings..
