Hi MSFN!

About the dell: I gave up and i have a computer now for Windows 9x now!

My New (OLD) Computer:

Also i'm trying to make the PC more extreme!

CPU: Intel Celeron (Pentium 4) 2.60 GHz

GPU: Club3D ATi Radeon 9600 Pro 128 MB (AGP 4x)

RAM: 786 MB DDR PC2100 (Corsair and Twinmos)

Sound: Soundblaster Audigy 2

HDD: 2x 80 GB HDD (7200 RPM)

ODD: 1x Phillips DVD-RW, CD-RW, 1x MSI CD-RW

Keyboard: Microsoft Natrural Multimedia Keyboard (PS/2)

Mouse: Microsoft Intellimouse 1.3a (PS/2)

But now i have installed Windows 98 Second Edition on here. It feels weird all the sudden.

_______

Problems so far:

Opera (Web Browser): Hangs up for 1 - 2 minutes often and i can't do anything. Until it stops freezing.

Quake 3 III Arena: Some hang up for a half second, even on the lowest settings.

Removable Device (USB): The whole computer locks up and i have to shut it down. Only happens during the computer is on.

Certain Discs: Same as Removable Device but it can take forever for WIndows to boot if i still have the Disc on the drive.

Soundblaster Audigy 2: No DOS (Games) support!

______

Please Help!

Upgrade Plans:

You can also refer good parts to make this PC even more BETTER!

GPU: ATi Radeon 9700 or 9800

Nvidia Geforce 4 (Ti 4200, 4400, 4600, 4800)

Nvidia Geforce FX (5) (5600, 5700, 5750, 5800, 5900, 5950)

Nvidia Geforce 6 (6600, 6700, 6800)

Your first post:

Windows 98 So Far (Updated 26 Aug 2012)
still tells nothing. All the correct Drivers installed? We HAVE to know the actual Computer Motherboard. You describe everything BUT that. ;) Pictures of a Tower will do no good. :(

The Motherboard is a Epox EP-P4MKI (µATX)

Such hangups make me think of bad sectors on the HDD. Install trial of HDD Sentinel and see if it tells you anything interesting. In DOS you can do SCANDISK C: /AUTOFIX /SURFACE (be prepared to many hours of "downtime")

The first thing I would do, Is try and run a clean installation of windows 98, without anything running.

Then one by one install something else new, until the problem starts to occur. However if your system

has been tweaked and twacked I do not know if that is possible.

Below are my ideas on the subject of hang ups.

Opera sounds strange, because the version I was using was zooming really fast. However I was using

an outdated version. I would get hang ups on Seakmonkey an K-melon alot more, then Opera.

Your direct X also could use a little more upgrading. Without certain installs of direct x, things would

move slower.

I switched out my memory, and the computer ran faster, ever since.

Another thing could be overheating, issues that damages the board, overtime.

You could also have something running in the background that is making everything else run slower.

Does the computer ever freezes from time to time? to the point where you might have control, but

you are unable to see what you are doing? That issue was my graphics card, that was physically

damaged. In my case, it would freeze and either reslove itself or not.
