Unofficial SP 5.2 for Microsoft Windows 2000 (WIP)

USP5.2 isn't done yet, no. tomasz86 is slowly getting it together but he has a very busy schedule himself so it's been a slow process. But I would recommend downloading his HF_SLIP packages and integrate them into a Windows 2000 installation CD, that will still get you quite up to date.

OK... So, just a question. Is Windows 2000 USP5.2 ready at all yet? Obviously, as you can tell by my username, I like Windows 2000. I also like repurposing older devices for everyday use. I just got a laptop going with Windows 2000 SP4+Unofficial Update Rollup 1 (Couldn't find download link for UUR2). So, I'd like to know if it's done, and if I can help (I'm very busy, but I can do what I can), I'd be glad to. That's all, I'm hoping for a reply soon. Bye!

As Tommy said above, just use my HFSLIP package to integrate the official updates and then manually install the newest version of the BlackWingCat's kernel to have additional features. The HFSLIP package contains almost all official updates and hotfixes (except for the ones which are either buggy or cannot be slipstreamed).

Excuse me if I'm missing something, but where *is* this "HFSLIP2000.7z" package? All I'm seeing on windows2000.tk are links to the individual hotfixes, most of which are *down*.

Did you happen to notice over on windows2000.tk the section near the top of the page labeled "HFSLIP 2000"?  And in that section did you see the link "Download HFSLIP 2000"?  Did you try that?  If you did, did you then see the link for "HFSLIP2000-1.0.1.7z" on tomasz86's Google Drive?  That download still works for me. :)  Where were you looking?

Cheers and Regards

The package is not available on the website itself. You can find it here:

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bw_nt4aAJIoPT0NBRmdCcExjQ1k&tid=0Bw_nt4aAJIoPWWNBay13dTlXOWs#list

The link mentioned above by bphlpt is for the HFSLIP 2000 script while this one contains both the script and the updates ready for slipstreaming (only for the ENU version).

By the way, can you tell me exactly which links to the individual hotfixes are "down"?

I started trying to give you a list but I went through an entire page's worth and *all of them* were "Sorry, the page you requested cannot be found" on microsoft.com. So... Rather than list your entire page...

Just some examples though:
http://microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=4127 (down)
http://microsoft.com/download/details.aspx?id=18997 (down)
http://support2.microsoft.com/hotfix/kbhotfix.aspx?kbnum=291343 (down)
http://support2.microsoft.com/hotfix/kbhotfix.aspx?kbnum=818383 (down)

And just in case it sounds like I'm ungrateful, thank you for the link to the full package and thank you for collecting these updates. If Microsoft is indeed taking these down (which, based on the above results, I fear), it's going to be very important that people have these collections of updates.

While the first two updates are indeed down :( (will try to replace the URLs soon), the links to hotfixes load fine on my computer. Could you try to use another web browser and report the results?

Edit: It seems to be a problem on the Microsoft side. The links will sometimes load, and sometimes will not. I do not know what the problem is about. They loaded fine in Chrome just a minute ago but will not load now. The same exact links are still accessible with IE though.

If anyone's interested in testing USP 5.2 please let me know in advance. I'll send information about any test versions as soon as they're available. Of course the more testers, the better.

Just noticed this. Are you still accepting testers? I'm interested.

Whenever something like this happens, don't forget the possibility of using the Wayback Machine:
https://archive.org/

usually these files are archived, example for the #18997:

Archive.org has been a lifesaver for me at times. For example, things just like this. Also, a pretty obvious, Microsoft stopped hosting Windows 2000 SP4 installer! While I happen to have this on my external HDD, here is a link in case anyone needs to download it, courtesy of the Wayback Machine:https://web.archive.org/web/20141120202456/http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?id=4127

That's all, good luck with this project, and again, I'll test if you still accept testers, Tomaz.

I don't know if he's still "actively" working on SP5.2 at the moment. I'm sure it's not 100% dead but it's come to quite a slowdown due to his busy schedule. Even I don't have any sort of beta copies of USP5.2 and I'm one of the biggest Windows 2000 users on this board. But perhaps Tomasz will chime in but I'm sure he'll tell you about the same thing I just said.
