Unable to change brilliance on a HP Pavilion

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone, My wife received as a gift of a used HP Pavilion DV7t-3100 and I ran a fresh install of Win 7 Pro 32 bit and find myself unable to adjust the brilliance. Reading a few posts others have had same problem with different makes and all mention Win 7 overwriting a file that controls this function and a manufactures driver file has to be re-installed after the Win 7 installation. My problem is I don't know which file this would be and would appreciate any help. Many thanks...

Just to keep things as together as possible:

here are some more details:

The fact that other FN keys work is good, but it is possible that different HP specific apps are loaded each hooking one or two Fn keys.

It's strange, as these are normally functions of the BIOS, i.e. these keys should work also in other Operating Systems.

Check your BIOS settings:

You could try loading *any* Linux LiveCD and see if in it they work as expected.

Possibly a valid answer here:

What is wrong with it?

Have you actually attempted installing the HP video driver software on the notebook? (maybe it contains some add-on).

It would have been a good idea, before installing a new Win7 to image the Recovery partition (or maybe it is still available? - if this is the case it is advised that you do so, just in case)

Thanks Jadaz, I had a few friends suggest where to post this question as I wasn't getting any response and some times it's the way you pose the question that confuses everyone and no one replies. I have been going around with this problem for too long now and it's too bad as it is a very nice laptop. I am going to take your advice and try install the video driver files, I will report back as this may help others. ........Dave

Hi jaclaz:

I wonder if such a Linux Live CD called *any* would be available, as it once happened with the "any" key.....

Greetings

cannie

PS: It's just a little joke.

It made me smile the way you wrote *any*, no doubt remembering that.

JFYI, try asking me about *any* multi-lingual/international .iso image....

;)

BTW the design of the *any* key has been improved, from:

press-any-key-to-continue.jpg

to:

any-key1.jpg

and some instructions were added:

LOL

Well, the newest design of "any" will be very useful to describe the real meaning of the word for many users.

Also the "International Iso image" is a work of art, a real finding to describe what some people understand when they read it.
