ScrewUpgrading
Gmail is the biggest pile of crap ever.I've slowly come to the conclusion that for some reason they block a good chunk of my mail. There's no rhyme or reason for it, it's just if they don't like where a particular email comes from, they just don't put it in your inbox. And your none the wiser about it. They don't even notify that you're message was blocked, nothing. It's evil. For instance,-I was expecting an email from a new internet service provider to verify my account, but Gmail never sent their mail.-I was registering a program through paypal from Germany, and needed to receive the registration key from the author, but Gmail blocked his emails. I had to try his alternate email account, after not getting a reply after 5 attempts.-I needed to receive some attachments from my sister, never arrived, despite the fact she sent them-my brother in law had the same problem, never received certain attachments, and this is not from my Windows Me compuer, but from his brand new computer. He couldn't get files from work.Basically, Gmail is terrible. You cannot rely on them if you have important business to do. They will screw you in the butt. I'm done with them forever. I'm going to have to use Yahoo again. But the only way I can access that is by using KernelEx (for Firefox 3.6+ or higher) and enabling javascript.... which is very slllooooowwwww on dial-up. Opera isn't supported by Gmail, Ebay, or most large websites. So that's not an option.I might just throw this computer away. It's just too much hassle trying to figure out which emails I didn't receive. This has caused nothing but huge problems for me.Computers are really starting to disgust me, bigtime. I already hate most new technology. Oh how I long for the internet of the late nineties. Before everythig went to hell in a hand basket.Sorry for the rant. But gmail sucks. Fredledingue
Yahoo Mail Classic works fine on W98SE and IE 6.1 (actualy I use Maxthon). It also works with javascript disabled.http://us.mc1100.mail.yahoo.com/mc/welcome?Just try it. But you must opt for Y!Mail classic on their website._________________________
iamtheky
Oh how I long for the internet of the late ninetiesyet use an OS that was released in late 2000 and chose a webmail client that wasnt available until mid 2004? and instead of posting any single specific issue and maybe details of the attachment size, contents, extension, and what browser version you are using, you drop a non-specific rant on the table?Though I would reach the same conclusion as getting rid of ME systems is good for the herd, like vaccinations
RJARRRPCGP
Opera isn't supported by Gmail, Ebay, or most large websites. Not so true anymore! That was definitely true back in the Opera 8 days, because Opera 8 (possibly 9, too) was a piece of crap! Most web sites work fine with Opera, if you're not using 8x. (or before 10x)Opera 10.62 and 11x rocks! Edited December 10, 2011 by RJARRRPCGP
ScrewUpgrading
I meant that officially Ebay and Gmail don't support Opera, If you read their "browser requirement" pages you'd see... but you're right, opera 10+ works decently on those sites. So, yeah.Anywho, I decided to come out of my Hobbit Hole.I found another free email that works pretty good. And it works without javascript too!. I plan on using this instead of Gmail.www.fastmail.fmJust try it. But you must opt for Y!Mail classic on their website.I'll try it again, but I don't have much hope it will work. Thanks though.yet use an OS that was released in late 2000 and chose a webmail client that wasnt available until mid 2004? and instead of posting any single specific issue and maybe details of the attachment size, contents, extension, and what browser version you are using, you drop a non-specific rant on the table?Though I would reach the same conclusion as getting rid of ME systems is good for the herd, like vaccinationsI don't have any details, because this is a problem with Google. I've checked my inbox with several browsers, Opera 10.63, K-Meleon 1.5.4, and Seamonkey 1.1.19. Also, I think I tried Opera 11.11 using KEX.For what it's worth my gmail account is set to "basic html" version for slow connections. Maybe that has something to do with it.I would give you the specicifs of any error, if any had been reported, instead it's nothing but dead silence from Gmail. The fact is, I know I should've received certain emails, but for some reason they never appeared in my inbox. Gmail never bothered to notify me of this. ?!?!If I didn't bother trying to reach people at their alternate addresses, then I would still be sitting around waiting for their non replies. No thanks to Gmail. I don't know what their deal is. Maybe it is my computer?!? But my sister and her ex-husband have reported similar problems using Gmail, and they use Windows XP and Vista, not Windows ME. That's all I know. CharlotteTheHarlot
If you are using Opera you should note that the 'Indenty' string actually makes a lot of difference on some websites. This is because of browser sniffing and branching to a different set of code. I have my own word for this practice, but it isn't allowed in this friendly forum. For example until recently using Opera on YellowPages.com/map would not even show the birdseye view (street, etc) map controls when the Identity was set for 'Opera'. This was fixed in either the 11.xx versions of Opera or when they began using Bing at YellowPages. Note: remember this problem when at map sites and switch the Identity to Internet Explorer instead. (This may also fix your Gmail or eBay problem).Another example, If you try to use Opera on KeepVid.com on a YouTube video URL and Opera is set to 'Identify as Internet Explorer', it completely fails and you see: "It appears you do not have Java installed or it is disabled on your system." That message is bogus. All you need to is switch the Identity to Opera or Firefox. What I always do in Opera is this ...- In Tools > Appearance go to the Toolbars tab and make sure that the Status Bar is checked (and while you're in there make sure that the Progress Bar is set to pop-up at bottom).- On the Buttons tab go to the category Preferences and find the drop-down box gadget with the text Identify as xxx (where xxx is Internet Explorer or Opera or Firefox, they're all the same) and drag it and drop it on the Status Bar on the bottom of the screen (or wherever you may have moved it).You should now always have available on the status bar a handy drop-down box showing the Opera browser current Identity string (i.e., Identify as Opera) which you can change anytime you want. You must press F5 refresh after switching it for the change to be seen by the website. So whenever you run into an odd problem with a webpage, it pays to test the three possible settings (F5 refresh!) and see if it is solved. I suspect this may apply to your posted problems. Edited December 13, 2011 by CharlotteTheHarlot

I have encountered this problem on a few E-Mail services when I deliver my Patches. When sending Patches to new Customers, I follow up with an E-Mail, with NO Attachment, requesting delivery verification. You can fool Gmail by renaming files to Name.JPG and having the recipient rename them back to the original Extension before using. Teeking
I have to agree that Gmail does in fact suck. A guy who's color separation software I use called Ultraseps, any mail users receive from them goes right to the spam folder for no reason whatsoever. I even called them and they're just as annoyed, have contacted Google and can't ever get it resolved. On top of that, mail I get from my son who's serving with the Marines in Afghanistan, his mail gets the spam treatment too and some never get delivered. I've started using Yahoo and no problems like this ever surface.

But gmail sucks.I have had the same problems, plus 1 that's 10 times bigger.I found out that Gmail is also selling/giving away peoples private information to 3rd parties. I have Yahoo email now and get maybe 4-6 spam a day, but with Gmail I was getting HUNDREDS! Once I even woke up to over 1000 spam emails in Gmail. I never subscribed to ANY of it, and all attempts to unsubscribe were met with more spam. And soooo many of them were from those nigerian scams. I never reply to any of them so they have no idea if the email address is valid, but they NEVER stopped. In Yahoo email, they stop after a while. But with Gmail, I think they were kept in the loop along with every other possible site on the internet that sends spam. Why the hell does a female need penis enlargement?!?And kids use Gmail as well. This should concern any parent worth their merit. A LOT of the spam I got in Gmail was prescription drugs, pornography, viagra, invites from whores to visit their sites, and a lot of them had pictures!!! I'm not a parent, but I still don't want porn in my email when I never subscribed or asked for it. If I want porn, I'll set up a camera in my bedroom!!!!I have had no issues with Yahoo email. No lost emails, no spam to speak of, no refused deliveries, no problems with attachments. The ONLY problem I have is the mobile Yahoo email not giving a link to the desktop version. Joseph_sw
You should block any image-request when try to open any emails,as thats how they find out if certain email addresses were active, thats right no-reply required. After all thats how ads-beacons such as quantserve, google-analytics, scorecardresearch and many others operates, if you disable javascript or using NoScript plugins. In most ads-driven sites, they will abuse the <noscript> - </noscript> tags, and between those tags you'll see it requesting useless 1x1 pixel (mostly transparent gif) images from dubious sources.
