Fredledingue
Would it be possible to create a special Service Pack containing updates working thanks to Kernelex and not available or not stable without it?In other words could KernelEx allow more updates to function on w9x?Here is the list of known KernelEx-only updates everybody seems to agree with:MSPAINT.EXE 5.1.2600.5918MSXML3.DLL 8.100.1052.0QUARTZ.DLL 6.5.1.914NOTEPAD.EXE 5.1.2600.5512VC_R_9X.EXEWORDPAD.EXE 5.00.2195.7155 USBVIEW.EXE 2.0.1.0 ___________________ Edited February 26, 2012 by Fredledingue

halohalo
mspaint.exe 5.00.2195.7368wordpad.exe 5.00.2195.7155oleaut32.dll 2.40.4532dxmasf.dll 6.4.09.1133However, replacing those files is not necessary because they are outdated. Besides, the oleaut32.dll from 2000 crashed my game in 98 and 2000.
M()zart
winhlp32.exe from XP (don't know exact version). It adds support for mouse wheel for scrolling, which is rather convenient.

I guess I can get rid of it now.
CharlesF
I know at least one: quartz.dll 6.5.1.914 Windows2000-DirectX9-KB975562-x86-ENU.exehttp://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=358Thx loblo, good to know! I will try it.You didn't noticed any side-effect?mspaint.exe 5.00.2195.7368mspaint.exe 5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2105) is working just fine winhlp32.exe from XP (don't know exact version). It adds support for mouse wheel for scrolling, which is rather convenient.I have deleted it, because it was always creating several empty 'Help' folders. I think one place was %WinDir%\Application Data. EDIT: I have found MSPAINT.EXE 5.1.2600.5918 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.091216-2054) which is working equally fine, but I don't find any difference between those 3 versions:5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp_sp2_rtm.040803-2158)5.1.2600.5512 (xpsp.080413-2105)5.1.2600.5918 (xpsp_sp3_gdr.091216-2054)Maybe only security fixes? egrabrych
I like the idea ... provided that it will have a LEADER who will sort all submitted proposals. I think that every file should have its source and required cooperating files noted. In order not to be groundless: already reported as running under Windows 98SE + KernelEx 4.52 Wordpad.exe 5.00.2195.7155 file is derived from hotfix: Windows2000-KB923561-x86-....exe, to the work needs to necessarily Mfc42u.dll file - which is not normal used in Windows 9x/ME. loblo
That's the right one CharlesF, if you look at the file version entry at the top of the version tab of the properties page you'll see that the file version is 6.5.1.914.And to answer you previous question, it seems to be working without issues here. loblo
I'm sorry but I don't understand: There must be a difference between Win 98 and Me as to what gets displayed in the top file version field I guess. You can have a look at the version info resource with Reshacker and you'll find the 6.5.1.914 value in the second and third line:1 VERSIONINFOFILEVERSION 6,5,1,914PRODUCTVERSION 6,5,1,914FILEOS 0x4FILETYPE 0x2{BLOCK "StringFileInfo"{ BLOCK "040904E4" { VALUE "CompanyName", "Microsoft Corporation" VALUE "FileDescription", "DirectShow Runtime." B) ... and, yes it is running fine.I have checked in DirectX Diag (from the config panel) and with The KMPlayer who is based upon DirectShow. Thanks .EDIT: Huum, I may be wrong about The KMP. It appears that it is using his own korean version included in his folder: Old_QUARTZ.DLL. Edited December 18, 2011 by CharlesF
