It has "just worked" for me...
Do you have WMP9URP Installed? I've heard that it is incompatible with the WMP10 9x edition; You're only supposed to install one or the other on a machine.

I noticed that AC97 audio which I am using RealTek VIA drivers seem to cut the lower bass off. To counteract this I chose Underwater environmental effect which gives the bass back. You can choose Quartz up to LH5384 with Bcrypt from ROS it gives extra 1-2 FPS with test video from https://msfn.org/board/topic/181784-streaming-downloading-youtube-videos-in-2020/?do=findComment&comment=1186281 over LH5270 version. I get min FPS 23.8 max 25 and frame rate for AV1 is more to do with CPU cache size than CPU speed as increasing the RAM speed from 100 -133Mhz gave a better frame rate result than increasing CPU speed by 10%.

MultiVMR9.dll from Alias the game needs a final release version of Quartz to work it seems so now I use Quartz form Win2K3 SP2 vs 6.5.3790.3959.

Below are install registration values for WMP10 vs 10.0.0.3997. You will need wmp.dll, wmploc.dll and wmplayer.exe of 10.0.0.3997 version distributed with Win2K3 SP2 for the registry installation confirmation. I have included a set of modules in use HTM for some help with other modules which can be of your choice but need to be compatible. Register new modules.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed Versions]
"wmp.dll"=hex:00,00,0a,00,9d,0f,00,00
"wmploc.dll"=hex:00,00,0a,00,9d,0f,00,00
"wmplayer.exe"=hex:00,00,0a,00,9d,0f,00,00

If you want to upgrade WMP9 these values will make wmp.dll vs 9.0.0.4510, wmploc.dll vs 9.0.0.4504 and WMPlayer.exe vs 9.0.0.4504 have installation confirmation.

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MediaPlayer\Setup\Installed Versions]
"wmp.dll"=hex:00,00,09,00,9e,11,00,00
"wmploc.dll"=hex:00,00,09,00,98,11,00,00
"wmplayer.exe"=hex:00,00,09,00,98,11,00,00
