Win xp won't start without usb

Recommended Posts

I've recently reinstalled win xp in my laptop.

I had to do it via usb as my cd reader is broken.

It all worked except that win xp won't boot if i take out the usb key ( which i've used for installing).

It simply says OPERATIVE SYSTEM NOT FOUND

I've tried changing parameters in the boot.ini file... But nothing...

I'm lost and don't know what to do...

Please help!

Did you use special software to prepare the usb drive? And like Trip said does this happen when you boot using other usb drives? This is a strange one

You didn't by chance install the os back to the usb drive did you? Not sure how you could but...

I'm sure we'had that one already, but I can't remember how how/if it was solved. Check that your partition is active.

edit: found some (problem is "usb" is 3 letters you can't search on that)

Fortunately, Google has no such limitation. In order to search MSFN for terms less than 4 characters (or otherwise forbidden such as "color"), type this into Google:

site:msfn.org usb
