Hello,

Our system is basically a network adapter card. As a part of that, we have a PCI DMA function in one of the chip.

The DMA expects that specific space in the system memory is allocated on a periodic basis.

The space is then used by the HW to move the received data to system memory and then notify the SW.

Can anyone clarify which part of the system takes care of allocating space in system memory?

Is it the driver? is it the OS?

Since I am an chip designer, I am unable to appreciate this.

Thanks in advance ...
