The only problem I'm anticipating is having to download the huge Avast virus database again.It appears that C:\Program Files\Alwil Software\Avast4\DATA\400.vps contains the virus database. Would I be able to save and then replace this file in a fresh Windows and Avast install? Any other thoughts?Win98 4.10.1998 upgraded to 4.10.2222, 400 Mhz, 224 MB RAM. Lipper Posted August 23, 2011 Author Share Posted August 23, 2011 Thanks for your input, Prozactive. I believe the Avast self-defense module wasn't implemented until v. 5x. Still, 4.8 likely has some sort of self-protection, and you have given me some good ideas should I encounter a problem replacing the vps file. Thanks also for the DB download link, I had forgotten about that. I can likely use my download manager (FDM) to painlessly acquire the latest DB instead of using the Avast interface.I think I'm good to go.
