What happened was when I had Skype running, this software put itself on my desktop without prompting me at all. Even if you deny it, it still will install. There has been no news from Skype besides Moderators on that discussion post. So what do you think? Is this legit, or a huge threat that millions of people have on their machines now? Sp0iLedBrAt
I noticed it yesterday. After deleting the Desktop icon, which I was informed "will now be placed", I was informed it wanted access to Skype. I clicked Deny, but noticed that in the Tools/Extras menu I couldn't see my installed games anymore. I did find it in CCleaner in Tools/Uninstall and removed it. I'm just not sure what was removed. My anti-virus (Avast! Free 6.0.1125) hasn't complained so far.
allen2
A malware might be exploiting this vulnerability or a new one.
Sp0iLedBrAt
Follow-through: I finally opened the My Extras manager and realized the game (Backgammon) had been removed. I clicked to install it again and was prompted with an EULA http://www.easybitsmedia.com/LicenseAgreement?g=7FF10FD1D9E1467181402A0155363CB2 I especially like the parts where it says that any data they collect from my usage is no longer my privacy and can be redistributed to their personal liking. I'm not using this cr*p; in fact, I'm going to remove Skype and reinstall without the Extras option.
tal ormanda
http://forum.skype.com/index.php?showannouncement=553&f=2The software is provided by our partner EasyBits, and is part of the Skype Extras Manager. The Extras Manager has been included in Windows releases of our software since 2006. This latest update from EasyBits included elements of their desktop games organizer in error, but it neither installs nor un-installs correctly. This update has been disabled while we work with them to correct the problems and user experience.Skype works closely with its partners to ensure that our users receive the best possible Skype experience and is working with EasyBits to ensure this issue does not happen again. For more information please visit http://blogs.skype.c...bled_for_s.html
