Does VLC higher than 1.1.5 run on Win-98?

Two of my win-98 systems have 1.1.5 version of VLC, and on one system I tried to install the most recent version (I think 1.1.8) but it crashes upon launching. Unless I'm not looking in the right place, I don't see too much here in the win-9x/me forums about the functionality of the newer versions of VLC on win-9x (presumably version 1.1.1 and higher requires KernelEx, which naturally my systems have, but it doesn't seem to be good enough). So - what's the story here?

All right - I can confirm that VLC 1.1.5 did update itself to 1.1.8 on the win-98 system I'm using to type this post. I'll have to dig a little deeper on the other system to see why the update didn't work.
