How to close disable DCOM network ports?

Engineering

Recommended Posts

They operate under SVCHOST.exe and are listening on local DCOM port.

This is default in a clean Windows 7 ultimate install. Also after security tweaking and hardening they still remain open.

What services are responsible for this? Can they be closed down?

Firewall blocks these ports by default. To disable connecting to COM, however, would break both local AND remote COM. Also, you'd break RPC and a LOT of other OS functions. The firewall should be sufficient.
