Recommended Posts

Sorry, I'm under Windows 10 10.0.0.240 X64

I just test all my WinNTSetup - 3.7.9; 3.8.0; 3.8.1.1

3.7.9 - both X86 and X64 starts

3.8.0 - x86 starts

3.8.1.1 - neither X86 neither X64

Anyway, let's hope MS will update OS and your software begin to work.

@Atari800XL
Not so sure, about adding tweaks for Win10.
There would be so many ones, but there is not much space in th GUI left.

I was just throwing out that little tip, because it was so quiet here..

But now that I think about it: I always thought there was a command line option already for something like

-tweaks "q:\winntsetup\tweaks-w10.reg"

to add user-specific tweaks, but I can't find it at all. So maybe it was all in my dreams? ;)

Seriously, would this be a possible addition?

Of course, "PostInstall" or something is better suited for a lot of this stuff, but removing the login background would be great to get out of the way straight from setup starting.

@Atari800XL

You can specific a folder regtweaks

The folder can be relative to Winntsetup

NT6 -regtweaks:"tweaks\Win10"

will add all *.reg files in your q:\winntsetup\tweaks\Win10\

Thanks JFX, I must have forgotten about that -regtweaks option, I couldn't find it in the first post anymore, but as you can tell from my previous message, it was still floating somewhere in my memory :-)

I'm deeply ashamed, I see it's right there in the help file. Please forgive me!!

When I install XP from a source that has an $OEM$ dir with cmdlines.txt and ROE.exe, the files don't get copied to the target drive after running WinNTSetup. Is this correct?

Fist Beta version of 3.8.5 is ready!

this one is all about adding compact mode for Win7/8.x/10

- it will automatically install wofadk driver if needed

- it will also add this driver to new installation if needed

- there is a WimBootCompress.ini in the Tools folder that should work for all windows version

Hello, I am sorry but when I tried to use your program it requires a

install.wim

which I do not have ?

I only have an iso ?\

I found this:

https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn621983.aspx

BUT I do not understand how to start even after readin many times, sorry :-(

And I found this:

http://www.danscourses.com/Windows-7-and-8/how-to-create-a-wim-system-image-file-with-windowsaik-and-windowspe.html

BUT I do not have any computer with windows 7 installed to create a WIM image, is there any other solution ?

Thank you for your help.

And if you look inside it, can you find an install.wim file?

You need to either:

a. mount the .iso to a drive letter using *any* "virtual CD" or "iso mounting" tool or "virtual disk" driver, IMDISK is advised:

http://www.ltr-data.se/opencode.html/#ImDisk

or:

b. open the .iso with any suitable tool like (advised) 7-zip:

http://www.7-zip.org/

and extract the contents to a local folder on your hard disk.

A good idea (generally speaking) when using these tools is to use simple paths, example:

C:\mynice7iso\

and not a convoluted long path with spaces or strange characters in it.

Stupid me ! Thanks, trying soon <3

OK I found in "source" folder "install.wim".

Then I used it on WinNTSetup_x64.exe

I am trying now but it asked me the location of the boot drive ? I selected the same as the external had disk on which I want to install windows 7, is it ok ?

I am so desperate.

WinNTSetup_x64. shows no error and tells me that it will do something after restart but when i restart nothing happens.

Then when I plug the external HDD on the other computer it loads windows and automatically restarts in a loop showing me the page where you can select SAFE MODE. It doesn't continue the windows install.

What I can do more ? Thanks for all.

Actually there is not really-really a "Windows install".

The whole point about the method by fujianabc that this tool automates/betters/etc. is that the Windows is not "installed" (i.e. "setup.exe" is not used) but rather a "generic/generalized" image is deployed.

What happens if you actually choose "Safe Mode"?

Does it continu to boot, does it freese, do you have (say ) a STOP ERROR, etc.?

At first sight it seems like a driver or configuration issue of some kind.

Describe your setup/environment  and the actual hardware involved. (EXACTLY) including how you partitioned/formatted the hard disk.

Check that the port to which you connect the USB hard disk are USB 2.0 (and not USB 3.0).

Re-run the tool and just before clicking the "Setup" button press CTRL+s, which saves the settings to a WinntSetup.ini file and attach the file so that we can check which settings you chose.
