Question about injecting drivers via DISM

What happens if you inject recursively:

intel_chipset\v8\file.inf (newer driver)

intel_chipset\v7\file.inf (older driver)

v8 has hwid DEVICE_A and DEVICE_B

v7 has hwid DEVICE_A

Do DEVICE_A and DEVICE_B get injected? What about versions?

In general both drivers are added to the driverstore, then the driver ranking will figure out what driver to use. You can see this ranking in the setupapi.dev.log file at deployment time

Windows will usually pic the driver with the latest "date" not the "version" number of driverver= (other stuff also comes into play, like hardware id and digital signature)

Thanks for the answers. Any ideas why my system won't use the nvidia/ati graphic drivers that I've integrated? Other drivers appear to work though.

%dism% /image:"%install_mnt%" /add-driver /recurse /forceunsigned /driver:"%driverspath%"

the variables are definitely correct. files are integrated.

nv_disp.inf seems to be missing a file (might be a coinstaller file, those are sometimes not listed in SourceDisksFiles section, only way to know is to post the nv_disp.inf)

Seems your driver backup prog is not grabbing all files

Tip: to backup a driver for Windows Vista/7 just install the driver the way you normally do, go to %WinDir%\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository, sort order by date, copy the driver you want to back up, rename the folder and delete PNF...now you have your driver for integrating next time and no files should be missing

That explains it. Makes me wonder why this happens though. This is official 260.99 drivers. Care to explain why bi_ becomes nothing? heh.

BTW there's something really irritating me.. I've been using "%~dp0setup\setup.exe" /s /noreboot /noeula all these while to install the drivers... setup.exe is what you extract from the 260.99 official setup file. My control panel NEVER works. Doesn't even work if I install it MANUALLY. Control panels works ONLY if i press "perform clean install"... which means i need to manually install it. Any idea?

If you want the correct files (no more and no less) then go grab the DriverStore folder for later integration, after you install the driver normally or via device manager update...BTW Im still stuck with 25x whql drivers from MS Update Catalog, they integrate perfectly and install the control panel fine but a friend who can use up to the 26x desktop drivers tells me the driver no longer installs when integrated as well as when it used too when he still used the same 25x version (max screen resolution during install, aero on 1st boot, cpl working)

Disturbing, no? I have install_wim_tweak.exe... and i thought this was suppose to help me resolve those access denied problems.
