vipin
Hi,I have slipstream XP SP3 with my XP SP2 installation disc using nLite. I then set its options for automatic installation so that it don't asks me questions.I did only these two things (slipstream + setting of automatic install options) and then created an ISO image. Then using, Microsoft Virtual PC, I tested it.It worked fine. It didn't ask me for many settings like CD-Key, Regional settings etc. But still I believe I made some mistakes and it was not fully automatic as I was expecting. I got these:First, it said, "Setup has suggested a username for you, now please enter your password" At this point, I had to simply press Next and it went ahead. After it, it said, "Windows will now try adjust your screen resolution" I again have to press Yes and then said to keep the new resolution. But after it, it asked me if i would like to keep automatic updates on or off, and set the usernamesI think it should not have asked these things as I had already set these settings.Kindly help.Attached is my file "LAST SESSION.INI"[Main]Env = 1.4.9.1 - 2.0.50727.4927.Microsoft Windows NT 6.1.7600.0Target = Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5512 - English (United States)[Tasks]Service Pack IntegrationUnattended Setup[Components];# Compatibility #[KeepFiles]msconfig.exe[RemoveFiles]clock.aviyahoo.bmpswtchbrd.bmp[Options]ProfilesDir = "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings"TargetPath = "WINDOWS"temp_dir = %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp[Patches][services2][Tweaks][unattended]ComputerType = AutomaticMaximumDataStorePercentOfDisk = 12RestorePointLife = 30DesktopTheme = Default||AutoUpdates = 4AutoUDay = 5AutoUHour = 15ProgFilesPath = "\Program Files"[NetAdapter1]connname = ""macaddress = ""ipaddress = "192.168.0.1"subnetmask = "255.255.255.0"defaultgateway = ""dnsserver1 = ""dnsserver2 = ""winsserver = ""netbiossetting = "0"ipxnetworknumber = "00000000"ipxnetworkframetype = "0xFF"[NetAdapter2]connname = ""macaddress = ""ipaddress = "192.168.0.2"subnetmask = "255.255.255.0"defaultgateway = ""dnsserver1 = ""dnsserver2 = ""winsserver = ""netbiossetting = "0"ipxnetworknumber = "00000000"ipxnetworkframetype = "0xFF"[GuiRunOnce][Drivers][Hotfixes]File "LAST SESSION_U.INI" (with cd-key removed);; nLite private info; (don't post it on the net, it's not important for debugging)[Personal]TimeZone = (GMT+05:30) Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, New DelhiCDKey = ComputerName = VIPINOrganization = Home PCLanguage = English (United States)Locale = English (United States)Keyboard = USDomainAdmin = DomainPass = Expirepassword = 0JoinDomain = JoinWorkgroup = MTNLOwner = Vipin Kumar[users]Administrator|||True|Administrators||False|True|TrueGuest|||False|Guests||True|False|False
Guest
You need to tick off Skip OOBE in the general tab. Also, uncheck must have password in the users tab. Edited July 31, 2010 by -X-
Ponch
But after it, it asked me if i would like to keep automatic updates on or off, and set the usernamesI think it should not have asked these things as I had already set these settings.Hello, that part of Windows Setup is called "Out Of the Box Experience" ("OOBE") and to skip that, you need to tick a box that says so on the Unattended screen. I think XP Pro allows skipping OOBE without having alternate administrative user (I see you have not entered any user name in the last lines of the _u file). fyi, XP Home doesn't.As for the resolution, tt's not set in your Unattended part either.Remember to start with a fresh source and load the ini file to go on instead of reusing your current set of resulting file. Unattended doesn't like that at all.
vipin
ok thanks for the inputs.. will try to skip OOBE and see what happens..
maheep
ok thanks for the inputs.. will try to skip OOBE and see what happens..I saw your file last session.ini. However, I believe it has no automation reports inside it. Also, the settings which you had mentioned there can be easily configured in the Unattended and Options sections of nLite. I have tested it thoroughly on MS Virtual PC and actually as well. Found no problems.
