Cannot Install nLite, DOS Box Error

Recommended Posts

Downloaded v1.4.9.1 to install, tried both archive & installer.

A Command Prompt box opens and I get an error message :( about a NTVDM CPU illegal instruction.

Looks like downloads are running a non-standard (Windows) installer.

I do have .NET Framework installed (versions 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1)

What I'm missing to install nLite

KB314106 fixes did not work.

Note that my work system is a vanilla WinXP with SP3 installed so there's no issue with Sound Blaster cards, etc.

I cannot make heads or tails of your "bad download "autofixed" by some AV utility" reference

My top question is, why in the hell is nLite installer using NTDOS at all

nLite is for WinXP, so why not a standard 32bit MSI or Setup.exe type installer?

tecknomage, nLite does not use 16 bit code. I strongly suspect you have a bad DL. Have you checked the MD5 hash? Did you DL the installer from the nLite site? If you did not use the nLite site or the MD5 code does not agree with that posted on the nLite site, you have a bad DL - DL until you get a good copy. Enjoy, John.

You need to check that the files you are using, (those which you've downloaded), have not been corrupted in some way.

In order to verify their integrity, the developer has provided MD5 hashes for you to make a comparison.

I have repropduced them here:

  • Installer
    Name - nLite-1.4.9.1.installer.exe:
    Size - 2.54 MB
    MD5 - 3C29656A99295E819FA2FE44F814AE42
  • Self-extracting archive
    Name - nLite-1.4.9.1.exe
    Size - 2.38 MB
    MD5 - CB0EFF52EE9AB11D63D5D6000116E334
