Uninstall Norton Antivirus

Recommended Posts

I would like to un-install Norton and install a different anti-virus scanner. I went to control panel and tried to un-install Norton like all other times but no good. Am I doing it wrong? I have been doing this with all my other programs. Have the Norton been corrupted that is why I am unable to un-install it?

thanks

  • Do you get any errors when trying to uninstall?
    OR
  • Isn't the un-install option in the add/remove programs dialog?
    AND/OR
  • Does Norton AV have an uninstall option in the Start-menu and
have you tried that one instead?

Just some basic questions to get started.

I don't use Norton myself, but every bit of information provided improves

the rate of success.

Greetz,

Peter.

If you're still having a lot of trouble uninstalling Norton because of a corrupted install, you can also run the Norton Removal Tool which will remove all traces of Norton products.

Running Norton Removal Tool (NRT) is the recommended solution; however, it absolutely will NOT remove all traces of Norton products. Several times I have had to edit the registry and disk folders manually to remove at least a hundred entries that NRT left behind. The tool worked better with their older products on XP but not so well with newer programs on Vista and Windows 7. Though I have not performed a comparitive test, Revo Uninstaller may do a better job.
