Exchange Server No longer receiving outboud mail

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Running Exchange Server 2003 with Server 2003.

Mail being sent from the server to outbound accounts works great, but incoming mail no longer comes through, been working flaw less until now.

I've checked the DNS records on my Web Domain host, and they have not changed.

I have a MX record for for domain pointing to "mail.domainname.info" and i have my domain name pointing to my servers ip using a "A" record.

Don't understand why it is no longer receiving mail from outbound connections (such as Gmail, Hotmail etc)

Any Help on this would be great

Make sure your port is still open for the mail coming in. Telnet to it.

Do you get any errors anywhere? Event Viewer?

If you send an email from a gmail (or whatever) do you get a response from the mail demon?

Also I think you should check to see if your domain got blacklisted... It does happen.

Assuming you can telnet to the mail server from an external host and deliver mail properly, it would seem like a routing or blacklist problem. You could also subscribe to a site like dnsstuff.com and their mail server test center - I'm not shilling for them at all, but their tools are very good and thorough, and would probably tell you where the problem lies quite quickly.

Thanks for the reply, I can telnet fine, however i do get a mail deamon after a while, telling me its failed.

Now something interesting happened, last night i received a bunch of emails, only 12, but from the previous day, now however no more emails have come through.

Also contacted godaddy.com and they have said that their dns is fine, and that my DNS set up is also fine.

Just checked also, this is what Gmail says:

Technical details of temporary failure:

Google tried to deliver your message, but it was rejected by the recipient domain. We recommend contacting the other email provider for further information about the cause of this error. The error that the other server returned was: 454 454 5.7.3 Client does not have permission to submit mail to this server. (state 13).

Ethan, this error you are getting (State 13) is a 550 Relay error. I have not seen a webmail service return this message. Send me a PM with an email address that I can send an email to, to see if I can get more detail out of the error.

Also, make sure you comply with the rules listed here:

No, I comply with all the rules.

Something different, because i have two domains, one with godaddy, and one with hostgator (also hosting), i contacted hostgator, to set up a MX and A records for me, now all mail is coming through to the server with the .com extention, not the .info, which is no issue, but what i've noticed, is because there were several email accounts set up with hostgator, through their CPanel, such as support@domain.com etc, i need all these to be forwarded to the Administrator@domain.com (hosted on the exchange server), but when i mail them, no mail comes through (probably because there is no account set up on the Exchange server to represent it) Is there a way to get all standard mail accounts, support, contact, noreply etc, to all be sent to administrator@domain.com.

I've added forwarders on the CPanel, but logically because the MX record has been added, the mail sent to a "support" address won't get as far to realise it needs to be forwarded.

Hope this makes sence.

Ethan

Hey, i've just spoken to HostGator, and i'll PM you the Script now.

I'm going to start by clarifying that the chat support guy mentioned "subdomain" but you said it was not a subdomain. Its a terminology issue for that. Example:

Domain = domain.com

subdomain = mail.domain.com

or

subdomain = anything.domain.com

However, when I did email forwarding, I did not have to deal with the actual mail server address so this might be how they do it. For my webhost (this does not work now so if you email this address the message will NOT be EVER received) I said I want my domain email address info@tripredacus.net to be forwarded to MYEMAILADDRESS@yahoo.com. I had this set up for 3 different accounts, each pointing to specific email addresses. It was set up as info@ goes to yahoo1, musik@ goes to yahoo2, (else)@ goes to yahoo3 account. (else) meaning anything not info or musik.

No email came through at the paypal address.

When i mentioned the subdomain, the issue i had was with godaddy, when i used mail.domain.com i assumed it would be the www. but it was not, it was the actual mail service for the domain, thats what was meant.

As for the Yahoo thing,i have forwarders set up in cPanel, yet they are not being reached because the mail MX record is set to my server, not hostgators.

So if i made accounts on the exchange server called, for example support@domain.com would i then receive the mail. Just the issue then is security of default accounts (such as support/help) and also getting Outlook to receive more than one exchange mail box on various machines/OWA

Get me?

Thanks for your continued help by the way!
