Error message upon KMS installation

I have an issue in Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 that has puzzled me. An error message (below) appears just after launching KMSW2K3.exe to install the KM service on this server. From what I've read, it seems to be a kernel error and unrelated to this OS or application, but I only get the message when attempting to install KMS.

"Not enough storage is available to process the command"

Then, after I click OK:

"Installation did not complete"

We need to install KMS to activate Windows 7 clients that we will be installing soon.

My server specs:

-Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard, 64-bit

-Intel Xeon E5440 @ 2.83GHz

-18.0 GB RAM

-39.4 GB free on C:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Spencer

Firstly, it appears that the file you are installing is to allow KMS to service Server 2008 and Windows 7 clients, and is intended for install onto Server 2003. This information is available here:

Finding info on this seems a bit tricky, but this may lead you in a better direction:

  • 3 weeks later...

You dont need to install anything in order to have the KMS service installed on s2k8 and/or s2k8r2

Just type you KMS key into slmgr

slmgr -ipk xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx -ato

It will automatically create the SRV record in DNS and everything ;)

Just dont forget to create a rule to allow TCP traffic in port 1688 in that server

Anyway you can start the workstations rollout because you will have a 30 day grace period, but the KMS server implementation takes only a couple of minutes
