The File-Checker (HFSLIPFC) for HFSLIP

Recommended Posts

Hi.

Found some kind of mistake

...

not found (A): HFSVCPACK\WindowsXP-KB968389-x86.reg (Security Advisory 973811: Enable Extended Protection for Authentication)

...

missing HFSVCPACK\WindowsXP-KB968389-x86.reg

...

Hi TeddyBeers,

yes, that's not very nice, but the reason is:

the check for missing updates in general (depending on you options) are doing the first output

then, when using KB970430 and/or KB971737 I check if KB968389 (and it's reg-file) are existing --> the second output!

these checks/outputs are at this moment independend. I could combine them. I'll think about that...

thx,

Mimo

New file-checker extension for XP

2010-08-31
- Added: WindowsXP-KB2264107-x86.reg (remove the CWD from the DLL search order)

The optional WindowsXP-KB2264107-x86.reg removes the CWD from the default DLL search order (highest protection against "DLL Hijacking" but can cause problems with some apps. Read KB2264107). Because possible problems it’s optional.

  • 2 weeks later...

Mimo,

I noticed this minor omission...

The Change-Log of the Windows XP Service Pack 3 Update-List

is missing an entry for...

Added MS10-042 Help and Support Center (critical) KB2229593

This entry is dated 2010-07-11

Thank you for maintaining this GREAT list. I rely upon it.

Mimo,

Suggestion: Add filever.exe to "Table 6: Files used by HFSLIP"

Reason: I deleted my SOURCE folder, intending to reload it after updating my source files using hfslipfc.exe

When I ran hfslipfc.exe I got this error message:

Cannot check version of Windows Media Player 11

(HFTOOLS\filever.exe is not available)

file:\HF\wmp11-windowsxp-x86-ENU.exe

expected version: 11.0.5721.5262

To correct the above I loaded the SOURCE folder

then extract filever.exe from \SOURCE\SUPPORT\TOOLS\SUPPORT.CAB

I then renamed the source folder so I could tell if hfslipfc.exe was using filever.exe in HFTOOLS

When I ran hfslipfc.exe again it used the copy of filever.exe in HFTOOLS - so it worked as expected!

Mimo,

I'm confused. I receive the two messages (not found, and missing) below from hfslipfc.exe. It doesn't seem to me that I should receive these messages since I have the alternatives (shown in bold below) installed. My last build was on 2010-06-14, and I did not receive these messages at that time.

Do you mean MS10-42 is not listed in the change log? It is listed under 2010-07-15 :)

Suggestion: Add filever.exe to "Table 6: Files used by HFSLIP"

yes, good idea... Next week new updates are coming and with this I'll add firever also. thx

I'm confused.

Hmm... I'm sure it's correct but probably a little MSXML-updates-matrix will be usefull. When I have time i will create this...

Hello Mimo !

First of all it's a great tool who've developped. It really helps. Thanks

I think there two typo mistakes in the new version. / instead of \

H|HF/WindowsXP-KB2141007-x86-!lang!.exe|Extended Protection for Authentication for Outlook Express

H|HF/WindowsXP-KB2158563-x86-!lang!.exe|Cumulative Time Zone Update

hfslipfc keeps saying they are missing despite the fact they're in the HF folder.

Thanks again for your great job.

Regards.

missing (S): HF\WindowsXP-KB954459-x86-ENU.EXE (MS08-069: XML Core Services (MSX ML6))

Hi Lilla,

now I checked the MSXML-Updates. The list (website) is OK but inside of the file-cheker there is something missing.

But first, I have a question:

not found (H): HF\WindowsXP-KB973687-x86-ENU.exe (Update for Windows XP (MSXML 3 & MSXML 6))

should only be reported if a) High-Priority-Updates and B) KB973686 is NOT inside of HF

a is given because of your INI

b is NOT given because KB973686 is not listed as missing (means it is inside of HF)

--> So why comes this message? I don't understand ...

missing (S): HF\WindowsXP-KB954459-x86-ENU.EXE (MS08-069: XML Core Services (MSX ML6))

This is the missing point inside of the file-checker:

KB954459 can be overriden by two updates: either by KB973687 or by KB973686.

So far it's possible to check one update against one other.

--> Todo: Check one update against two others!

Thx for your hints! :)
