Sorry if my english is not good.

I need install Windows Xp Pro (2002) on an external USB drive on a HP laptop, because I have a lot of old soft inoperand with Vista.

Computer product name : HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook

PC, serial number : CNF92331ZC, product number : VE139EA#ABF,

MB : 3624, CPU : INTEL CORE 2 DUO P7350@2Gh, Mémory : 4096ko, BIOS Version : F12.

I have carefully pass the steps of an Nlite CD, all drivers seems to be on the disk, the XP setup begins, but the system installation asserts that the CD is not a microsoft original product. The Ms CD is rejected for the same reasons. Or this MS CD has been used for years on an old Toshiba laptop who burned this summer.

Where is my mistake ??

the system installation asserts that the CD is not a microsoft original product. The Ms CD is rejected for the same reasons.

Can you please give the exact message ?

+Did you read anything prior to this in order to install XP to an external USB drive (I've never done it but your problem could as well come from that) ?

The system installation load all drivers, the screen turn blank with red letters and the message is :

The CD is not a valid install drive, please insert the original drive.

The same display appears when I load the original XP CD but this one does not contains SATA drivers.

Thanks for your help.

At least we know it is not an nLite problem. This looks more like "installing XP to USB" problem.

I won't read all 100 pages here, but you might have to do some research before you reach your goal. It's certainly not as easy as "just choose the USB disk for install".

Maybe this could help as well. Good luck.

Multibooting from internal HDD might prove easier.
