Hi,

As far as I can go back - to the times when I was working on DOS based machines, it should be FAT only and NOT FAT32.

MS DOS could support only upto 16 bit so FAT32 fails if you run MS Windows 3 and sometimes Win 95 too. You can easily use FAT32 for any Windows OS after 98. BTW, why would you require this information? Just curious... :)

When people say "DOS", they mainly say "MS-DOS 6.x" which is the last version before Windows tooke over. In which case the answer to your question is FAT 12 and FAT 16 which have limitations to 32MB and 2Gig partitions.

If you mean DOS as "DOS 1.0 and other", you have to go back to FAT12 only. FAT32 was introduced with Win95b

see http://www.dewassoc.com/kbase/hard_drives/...systems_dos.htm

and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FAT12

Good luck for your exams. :D
