Linux, nLite supported?

Linux

Recommended Posts

Interesting question, never thought about it before. nLite needs .NET Framework 2.0...you can install .NET Framework 2.0 in Wine (http://appdb.winehq.org/appview.php?iVersionId=3754). After .NET Framework is installed, then install nLite.

That's where I'd start. Let us know if it works!

Of course, the other alternative would be to use VirtualBox, VMWare, etc. to install a virtual XP install within Linux.

If trying to customize linux I'd go with kickstart or re-spin to start with. Maybe, knoppix or morphix or linuxmint to see some bare implementations.

maybe you are trying to Nlite a windows source, from a Linux box. Threads of a similar nature look empty or fruitless.

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...TestingId=19149

What works

The installer works if you manage to install Dot Net 2.0.

What does not

The programm crashes on startup.

What was not tested

Nothing.

Not quite...somebody's reporting success:

http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?...TestingId=41991

What works

nLite 1.4.9.1 runs flawlessly under Wine 1.1.24

What does not

Everything works.

What was not tested

Everything was tested.

Additional Comments

Needs .Net 2.0 installed to work. .NET 2.0 installs easily with some extremely minor tweaking. View the .NET 2.0 posts to install before continuing with the nLite install

What prevents you from loading virtualbox onto your ubuntu,

loading that virtualbox with your copy of xp you were going to nlite,

Then copying that source over to the virtualbox and customizing it?

@jrf - suppose i should read the big yellow banners :)

Looks like the key to success may be downloading the self-extracting archive version of nLite and extracting it to the Wine folder tree, rather than running the installer.

If I had more time, I'd test it myself...I'm half-curious now!
