Unattended With RIS multi Hardware Platforms

Recommended Posts

I would love some help with this I am stuck

I want to use one RIS Install for multiple types of PC's.

So i started out and set it up for the Optiplex 330 which has sata harddrives in it, so I had to add the following lines to my ristndrd file to get the setup to find the harddrive.

[MassStorageDrivers]

"Intel® ICH9 SATA AHCIController (Desktop ICH9R)"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801HEM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E)"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801HEM/HBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH8M-E/M)"="OEM"

"Intel® ICH8R/ICH9R SATA RAID Controller"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801HR/HH/HO SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH8R)"="OEM"

"Intel® 631xESB/632xESB SATA RAID Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2)"="OEM"

"Intel® 631xESB/632xESB SATA AHCI Controller (Server/Workstation ESB2)"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801GHM SATA RAID Controller (Mobile ICH7MDH)"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA RAID Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801GR/GH SATA AHCI Controller (Desktop ICH7R/DH)"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801GBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH7M/DH)"="OEM"

"Intel® 82801FBM SATA AHCI Controller (Mobile ICH6M)"="OEM"

Works great so now I move on to a older machine the Optiplex 170L and everytime after it copies its files and reboots for the text mode it would BSOD. So I took the lines out that I posted above and it works great.

How can I use the ristndrd setup file for both types of machiines the 330 needs the lines to find the harddrive and the 170l looks like it crashing becasue of it.

Please help I really don't want to have to have a image for the 330 and another one for the 170 would like to keep them into one image.

Thanks for any help.

Is the same no matter which chipset / raid chipset you have. Unfortunately, the actual content of those files is different. Example: One version of the files may cover the 82801 chipset, but a different version of the files is needed for the ICH8R.

How would you integrate that into a generic Multi-systm RIS? When you have to copy the INF and SYS files to you I386, you are suddenly faced wtih needing to copy two different versions of the same file.....2 different SIF's would not work here. I know there is something blindingly obvious I am missing....

Something simialar wold occur for Dell otpiplex or latitude series AUDIO chipset.. There are many different models, all from the same manafacturer, same file names , but the INF/CAt/SYS files are model specific.......
