BUFKIT, software that manipulates soundings from NOAA's weather model guidance runs on Windows 2000 as of the new version 19. I've only tested it with the extended kernel but it relies on VC++ 7.1 and VB6 runtimes so it will probably work with vanilla SP4.

As for programs working on the extended kernel (v2.9bG), I've had success with the Serif "Plus" series all the way up to its discontinuation around 2015. Adobe Photoshop CS4 and 5 extended (CS3 is a little unstable) also work. I tried Illustrator CS6 but it crashes after loading plugins.

Hi. Plz try to run it on certain debugger :3

Perhaps crash reason is INT3.

Thanks for testing Illustrator out for me. :) The problem with being unable to open (and save) files from within the program started with CS4 (it also affects InDesign, but Photoshop is fine). I'll take your advice and try with Dependency Walker and the new extended kernel.

UPDATE: I ended up getting the same results as you, down to opening and saving. I'll use an older version under either win2k or 2003R2 because it seems like the bloat:functionality ratio went through the roof with newer Adobe software.

I found Windows 2000 comdlg32.dll bug.

I released Extended kernel v2.9i which includes the fix. :3

Perhaps Save / Load problem  are fixed.

Yes, Illustrator CS6 now loads and saves files! I don't have CS4 installed right now but it probably works too. Thank you for improving Windows 2000.

ThrottleStop 8.70.6 claims Windows 7+ compatibility, but it still works in Windows 2000 extended kernel 3.0a: https://www.techpowerup.com/download/techpowerup-throttlestop/

But it won't really work with older processors like early Core 2 Duos: then you have to go for version 4.

I wonder if this can get my incoming Xeon X5670 to semi-overclock* to constant turbo because win2k doesn't support dynamic frequency scaling.

*HP Z600 Workstation, so no real overclocking possible

I posted this in the Windows XP section as well - Is it true that update servers are being decommissioned for 2000, XP, and Vista as of July 2019?  This might warrant a dedicated topic, no?

We don't know about decommissioning the update servers as of yet. But if you want to post a dedicated topic just incase, that would be god. :)

Opera has ended support at version 12.02, but with BWC's extended kernel you can get up to Opera 37 (however i've only tested Opera 36, which is based on Google Chrome 49). Dont forget to add --no-sandbox switch!

Does anyone know whether flash player 11 works natively on Windows 2000?
SDFox's archive:

A hack required:

It works, you just need KernelEx.

The latest version of WPS Office 2016, 10.2.0.7646, works perfectly in extended Windows 2000.

Feature-wise, it seems to be very similar to M$ Office 2016, yet it only takes up roughly 400 MB of HDD space for Word, Excel and PowerPoint alternatives.

Download the free version here:

https://www.wps.com/download/

It does require the viewing of some ads in order to print and export to PDF, although a perpetual licence is available to get around that issue.

Since then, I've discovered that WPS will crash if the Office 2007-style file menu is opened whilst editing a Office 2007+ file. So, I recommend using the Office 2003-style UI.

Anyway, I looked into a game that I enjoyed several years ago: Simutrans.

I then used whatever version was current in mid-2011, and it worked wonderfully on vanilla Windows 2000 (SP4 i think) on a Pentium III-500. It would crash occasionally, but most sim games are not known for their stability.

I tried 120.4.1 and it still works with extended kernel (some XP-only functions seem to be used). However, you cannot use the SDL version as it relies on DWrite.dll from Windows 7/DX11.

https://www.simutrans.com/en/download/

update: SDL 121.0 no longer seems to rely on dwrite.dll, yet it fails with icm32.dll version 5.0.0.3 due to missing export functions.

CMGetPS2ColorSpaceArray

CMGetPS2ColorRenderingIntent

CMGetPS2ColorRenderingDictionary

They are not in any version of icm32.dll through Windows 7.
