XP Setup Froze...

eh3

Recommended Posts

Ok so I've been messing with nLite for a few days now.. Starting to figure all this stuff out, or so I thought..

Kinda think that I'm getting the hang of addons with nLite.. I've made several "addon" programs to install.

I put the install file in a "svcpack" folder inside another folder and used an .ini file to set the install parameters and what not

and then packed it with CabPack.. I believe that I did everything right to this point..

Made my semi-unattended XP SP3 disc... but now my setup "freezes" when it gets to the page where it says

Registers components on the "Performing Final Tasks" page....

It seems like last night it restarted at one point on this page and then got to it again and froze.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Here's my winnt file..

eh3, I see nothing in the winnt.sif that would bother me. What we really need to see is your Last Session, so, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. It would also be really nice if you would edit your topic title and make it more descriptive so others can find it better. You can do this by editing your first post. Enjoy, John.

I put the install file in a "svcpack" folder inside another folder and used an .inf file to set the install parameters and what not

and then packed it with CabPack.. I believe that I did everything right to this point..

Maybe you`re wrong.

Example:

1) create "D:\Firefox_Addon\svcpack" (don`t work on the desktop)

2) put "firefox_installer.exe" to "svcpack"

3) create an entries.ini (not .inf) with the needed info and switches in "Firefox_Setup" (beside "svcpack")

4) create an archive by choosing ONLY "entries.ini" and "svcpack" with 7z/WinRar (inside "Firefox_Addon")

5) integrate this archiv "Firefox_Addon.7z" with nLite as hotfix

Done.

Edit:

An "entries.ini" should look like this:

[general]
builddate=2008/03/30
description=für Win XP/w2k/w2k3
language=Deutsch
title=Dein Programmname
version=1.0
website=http://www.german-nlite.org

[EditFile]
I386\SVCPACK.INF,SetupHotfixesToRun,AddProgram

[AddProgram]
installer.exe /switch

Yeah, that's what I did...

I used .ini file, not .inf.. I typed it wrong on the first post (now corrected)..

I ended up just doing a batch command script instead. Installed everything just fine..

I would still like to know why it didn't work for me though....

eh3, since we don't know what you converted to a batch file, we cannot speculate on why it did not work. Did it freeze at T-13? If so, this is when the SVCPACK stuff gets run and I would suspect one of your AddOns. Please, in the future, attach (not paste) your Last Session file. In the lower right corner of the Reply screen are the Browse... and the UPLOAD buttons. Use them to attach your file. Thanks for changing your topic title. Enjoy, John.
