Revolutions Pack 9.7

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I wish RP a Happy birthday too! I hope this project will

be continued for many years to come.

Has anybody tested it with WINE on a linux box?

Also, can somebody explain what this "Resource Salvation" is about?

I'm just interested, because I was not aware that Win98 had

a resources problem. I'm a software developer, so you can get

technical.

I also have some little anomalies to report. I'll post them

right away.

Hi,

* Missing text lable + vertical line during Drag & Drop on IE5 machine.

* Garbled text lable + vertical line while dragging in IE6 + Cleartype

(ok without cleartype)

* Scrollbar thumb not following while scrolling with thumb

in Rich Edit controls (WordPad)

* Outer window border leaves white area (left-top, right-top) in

Win7 theme (other themes are ok)

* Icons are cut off in icon view

IE6 is required for good (for anything other than Core install).
* Garbled text lable + vertical line while dragging in IE6 + Cleartype
Known, low priority.
* Scrollbar thumb not following while scrolling with thumb

in Rich Edit controls (WordPad)

Not following at all or lagging?

Not really worth noting.

Here, take a good breath, sit back and delve into these two threads below, and you'll know what is it all about: ;)

The 16bit heaps expander thread and GDI Heap Extender.

Hi Tihiy...

Couple problems with 9.5.6 RC...

(1) Icons in the System Tray do not update when their status changes...

(for example... an icon has a small red X on it, when the app it applies to is disabled...

when the app is enabled, the icon still shows the small red X on it...

when a tooltip covers the icon, then disappears, the small red X is gone...)

(2) Explorer's CPU cycles seem a bit higher with 9.5.6 RC installed...

I have tested Revolutions Pack 9.5.6. It is working fine.

Thanks a lot Tihiy for your work!

A few problems:

1°) The bug with transparency of WMP9 skins [reported in post #331] is not solved at all.

post-200646-127370002945_thumb.png

When we choose a new theme in RPConfig, there is 2 steps: first applying the new Scheme (from Registry) and then the new Appearance (from %WINDIR%\Resources\Themes). This bug appears during the 2nd step.

2°) Task Manager (Close Program):

- previous one was nicer, this one is too simple and the green of the spots is too light,

- it is fixed (sticked) in the middle of the screen, I can't move it. Sometimes it is necessary to move it on the side, if it hides another window.

3°) If I copy a file from anywhere else (Ctrl+C) and past it on the desktop (Ctrl+V), the file is not visible. I have to go in explorer to find it. Very annoying!

4°) When creating a New document (file or folder) from the right-click, there is a glitch with the text under the icon.

5°) As reported by Dandee, when dragging some icons on the desktop, the text under the icon is broken (illegible), and there is a black vertical line on right.

6°) Shadowing on the desktop is beautiful, but I am sorry that we can't set the color of the text.

Most of the little programs that are giving such transparency allow it (Transparent, Transtext, ...).

7°) How can I complete the translation? (new strings are lacking, in french).

1°) The bug with transparency of WMP9 skins [reported in post #331] is not solved at all.
I'm afraid it won't be solved since WMP9 is not worth my time and bug has workarounds (using another skin, RP theme, or just resizing). If you can find any other broken skinned program then sure it would be critical.
2°) Task Manager (Close Program):

That's what i think, but i'm not a designer. If they're ugly, make better ones.

Not possible.

Sorry; will be fixed.
6°) Shadowing on the desktop is beautiful, but I am sorry that we can't set the color of the text.
Cyan text with magenta shadow? Fine, there will be registry settings for that.
7°) How can I complete the translation? (new strings are lacking, in french).
Edit rpconfig[rpsetup].lng files with text editor.

And shl8.dll, rp8.dll with resource editor.

Thanks Tihiy for all that! :)

7°) How can I complete the translation? (new strings are lacking, in french).
Edit rpconfig[rpsetup].lng files with text editor.

And shl8.dll, rp8.dll with resource editor.

OK, I can do it. :thumbup

For all strings that are lacking in the '.lng' files, can I copy them from the GUI and add them inside anywhere?

BTW, are registry tweaks you gave in post #336, still usefull?

It is simpler than ever. under your [langid] you add English Text=Traduit du texte etc. The complete list is under [1049] which is russian.

They're enabled by default.

Hi Tihiy,

The thumbnails show mangled.

BTW, I noticed that dragging and dropping in explorer is superstable now.

In the previous version 9.1.0 there was some flickering going on.

I like it, because I use the explorer very often. Thanks!

Fixed: dragged icon label shows garbled with ClearType enabled.

Fixed: shell thumbnails show corrupted.

Fixed: RPConfig wallpapers list consumed way too much memory.

Changed: RPConfig wallpapers list is saved when you close RPConfig window.

New: custom colors for desktop text/shadow.

Revolutions Pack 9.6.0 RC

Thanks. :)
This release would be relabeled as RTM as soon as guide/translations come.
I try to do it this week-end.
Fixed: align desktop icons setting could break item paste.
B)
Fixed: dragged icon label shows garbled with ClearType enabled.
I had it with not Cleartype enabled.

With this release, text is clean after applying the skin, but gargled is back after reboot.

2 more points (no need to correction):

- when I make a screenshot with 'Printscreen' on the keyboard, the cursor is visible. Not like in native Windows 98, and not even like in previous release.

- with a bigger police size (I can't bear small text), when you drag the icon, you can see the original size.

New: custom colors for desktop text/shadow.
I love it! :thumbup

I have problems with the taskbar ("Windows 7" skin selected):

- when I maximize a window, it doesn't cover all screen but leave place at bottom for a Superbar that doesn't exist ;

- sometimes the taskbar becomes bigger and I have to unlock it to give it back the good size (That's annoying!).

Later Edit: I have switched to another skin (Windows XP) and have no

more problem with the taskbar. So it could come from the Superbar settings.

2nd Edit: No problem also with Watercolor EB, plain or Superbar.

- BTW, if I select a bigger police size on desktop with "Windows 7_Superbar" enabled (using Display -> Appearance, or Accessibility wizard (=ACCWIZ.EXE) ),

I loose the big size of taskbar. What should I do?

Hi Tihiy!

Just tested 9.6.0 RC...

I removed 9.1 and rebooted, then installed 9.6 custom, without skins and 32-bit icon support, and rebooted. Got a 'The system is dangerously low in resources!', while browsing Boot-Land, folowed by immediate all round GDI breakdown, less than a minute after the system was up again. The system didn't crash, though, and after some 3 or 4 minutes all GDI related things (title bars, fonts and icons) were recovered to normalcy. I opened another IE6 window and came to MSFN, and the GDI resources went down again, but not as fas as before.

Plus, the tray still flickers...

Are you sure you updated the version for download linked from your post #388?

Then again, the taskbar is locking OK. And the new <Ctrl>-<Alt>-<Del> dialog is great!

But I still don't quite understand what does it mean by SYS resources...

SYS represents free space in 16-bit global heap.

Maybe it should say "Global" instead of SYS, to avoid creating confusion.
