KernelEx 4.5.2

Recommended Posts

I really would like to know, what's going on with this project - is frozen, stopped, whatever?

The last update was made on 4 March (over six weeks ago) and Xeno is rarely seen here, on MSFN forum.

Xeno86 really isn't appearing often, but that's normal, he's never been around much. But every time he does post, he brings new interesting things. As for the KernelEx project, rest assured it's still going on strong, and there'll be further updates to it.

  • 2 weeks later...

*****BUG REPORT*****

* Fixed: MSYS (broken)

since this fix, some programs like 7zip, and other GTK+ applications can't read/access the file/folder with non-english charcters (CJK System - Chinese/Japanese/Korean) and simbols.

just try this pheonix application (ssnes-GTK+)

https://github.com/downloads/Themaister/SSNES/ssnes-win32-0.4.1.zip

rename (extension must be '*.smc' of '*.sfc') any file to (like) Chinese or Japanese and load it through 'ROM Path', then you won't be able to access/load the file properly

KenlelEX 4.5-beta2 worked/works just fine

**UPDATE**

GTK+ applications not Phoenix

Good news! Today, Xeno committed two new revisions (336 & 337). :)

KernelEx v4.5.1

Release announcement

Hi there!

Sorry for long wait folks. Unfortunately I have to confirm what some of you might have already suspected. The development of KernelEx has stalled. The release you see here is an almost unmodified version from February. I have decided to finally release it so that the work which has been done is not completely lost and so that you could benefit from it.

This is mainly a bug fix release with an addition of new feature for developers who want to hack around KernelEx and Windows APIs.

The update brings mainly fixes for Opera 11 and GTK application users but as usual the fixes might also help other applications.

Developers can now experiment with monitoring or filtering APIs on-the-fly in single applications without affecting the entire system.

What's new:

  • New KernelEx API Hook infrastructure for developers
  • Various bugfixes

Apps fixed / now working:

  • New Opera 11 non-MSI installer now works
  • Fixed download numbers in Opera 11 not being displayed properly
  • Fixed missing checkboxes in GTK applications – Pidgin and GIMP among others
  • Fixed Google Earth 5.2 installation on non-english systems

Please note that Opera 11 auto-update doesn’t currently work, so you have to perform the updates manually.

I wish I had more time, finally learn C and improve my x86 ASM skill (I like 68K, Z80, SuperH much more :P) and help with KernelEx...

Thank you for new version :D i'll be testing it out when I get back home :D

I hope it doesn't mean, that we shouldn't expect any new version in predictible future - IMHO, it's most important project for our small community.

Anyway, thank you warmly for update! :)

Thanks Xeno86 for supporting all the Windows Me users of the world.

I'll definitely be saving my copies of KernelEx and Firefox 3.6.17.

Windows Me has reached it's zenith. It's all downhill now.

I am thinking the same thing about 98.

What is the correct process when updating KernelEx?

Do we just un-install reboot then install the newest?

I don't know for sure, but I installed over 4.5, rebooted as prompted and it seems to be working OK.

Glad it's still working, still be interested to know the correct method though.

Xeno86, in the third post in this thread: "Also the installer is now more familiar and supports installing new version on top of previous installation. "

Both methods are correct
