To whom it may concern,

Not in disregard -of the creator/s- I should say that some manuals are not much clear at the following subject: Service packs + updates.

¿Any one knows how to do the whole OS actualization -Service packs + updates- work in nLite?

Thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

SSA

if you are asking if its possible to do all that at once.. i dont think it is. someone correct me if i'm wrong, but i think you have to first slipstream sp3 and then add the post sp3 updates

NLite is designed to do it all in one go. Add the service pack and add the updates, it is that simple.

A minimum effort is required to get some help. What have you tried and how far have you got ?

To whom it may concern,

I will try to answer the quoted paragraph, however I have basically two questions.

This is how far I made: I got some files from a search I did in my PC, using a KB...X file and the search gave many files I have copied in a folder, and also typing the names from the Start>Control panel>Add/Remove programs Windows actualizations list. I guess there´s an error or something wrong with this procedure, because some "tutorials" I read said there were .txt files to copy in nLite for actualizations integration (http://www.letheonline.net/manualnlite.htm), and I found many different files formats for actualization found in the Add/Remove list -I am sure this is not the only file I downloaded fron th Windows update site, but there are few KB...XX... files in this text format. Below there is a pasted example of a 5KB text file from KB961118, but it is not the only format the search gave as there is another 9KB file for the KB961118 -for example- that says on its properties dialog box that it opens with Crypto extensions application, look for the abovementioned text file named KB961118.log:

If this is the format to use I must say I have a very few files actualization KB...XX... files -if this is not the only one in my PC - and I have actualized my OS until today from Microsoft update official web site; there are other files format.

This is another example: "spuninst" in path C:\WINDOWS\$NtUninstallKB961118$\spuninst and there are many others.

In order to allocate all the files, I tried to download the updates from Microsoft update web site page to a specific folder but it downloads them automatically to some location I don not know. ¿Can I search for them in other page of Microsoft?

A detailed description of the procedure -including what, where and how to search for the actualization files to integrate-maybe is all I need; don't you think? -but this could be answered or shared by the true real advised only.

I also make this concise question below to the same advised general public.

Please someone answer the following request to this humble servant:

¿How one creates a Windows XP SP3 boot CD from a Windows XP SP2 boot CD?

I tried using the ISO creation function -last option in list- in nLite but it did not work, the machine did not boot to install the OS (Windows XP SP3.) As I read in other post I have failed in burning the CD from the ISO -I extracted the ISO with PowerISO program and burned a CD with Nero7; I guess the boot files after that last extraction were not found to burn, am I wrong?

Excuse my ignorance, please.

Best regards,

SSA

Common mistake indeed. The ISO is the whole CD, like Nero has its own propietary CD image format (.nrg ?). You do NOT add the files extracted from the ISO to a bootable CD, what you need to do is use (also in Nero 7) the menu BURN IMAGE FROM ISO, that cd is bootable by its own system files included in the ISO.

As for the whole KB thing, maybe someone using the same method can help you. Most don't bother making an exactly up to date CD as it would be ...out of date after few weeks. An alternative is using update packs like for instance the one that RyanVM makes. They are kept updated quite regularly (this one is a bit more than a month old). Here you include the pack via nLite as is, no extraction needed.

Good luck.

swtslasylm, you need to start with something simple. Please see my other post to you. Try running nLite against a fresh copy of your CD, use only the first item in Task Selection, Service Pack and the last, Bootable ISO. On the Bootable ISO page, select Direct Burn. This will burn the ISO to a CD that you should be able to install. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.

Dear John,

¡I am booting!

I will do as told; now I had also visited Ryans place.

Thanks for your precious time to all concerned.

Rodney
