Kathryn Scheller
I'm just starting to move from XP to VISTA. I plan on continuing to use WinZip and ACDSee on my computer. Under XP I first disabled Windows own zip function by using "regsvr32 /u zipfldr.dll" and disabled windows own image viewer by using "regsvr32 /u shimgvw". Is this something I have to do under VISTA, or can I just go ahead and install the two applications? Thanks. Also: The shutdown screen has these options: switch user, log off, restart, sleep, shutdown. Is there a way to remove all except restart and shutdown? Also: I'm looking for a tweaking utility that has an option to remove items from the desktop right-click menu and it's sub-menus. Anyone know of any? Edited February 16, 2009 by Kathryn Scheller
gunsmokingman
You should be able to use your unregister cmd on Vista, if you are using x32 then theapps should work fine. If you are using the x64 then the apps may not work correctly. This will remove alot of the New templates that you get when you right click.Save This As CleanUpContextMenu.regWindows Registry Editor Version 5.00;Clean up NEW Templates; This will remove these items from the "New" context menu.[-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bfc\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.bmp\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.contact\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\Word.Document.6\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\Word.Document.8\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\WordDocument\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.doc\WordPad.Document.1\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.jnt\jntfile\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.4\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.ppt\PowerPoint.Show.8\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.PspImage\PaintShopPro9.Image\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.rtf\ShellNew][-HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.wav\ShellNew][-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.jnt\jntfile\ShellNew][-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.rtf\ShellNew][-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Briefcase\ShellNew][-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\contact_wab_auto_file\ShellEx]
Kathryn Scheller
Thanks for your help. Those Registry entries are exactly what I was looking for. It's really nice not to have to install another piece of software to do this.
