WHICH manual?

Including PROPER GROUNDing?

Re-check everything, following EXACTLY the advice given in the read-me-first:

Does that happen BEFORE you try CTRL+Z, right?

If you review the manual and also put the grounding but since I press the OK button in the configuration of windows hyperterminal I get what is in the picture but will check again to see if I'm not doing something right.

I hope you are not using an USB to RS232ph34r.gif See and on the previous page

Once you have the right converter (USB to 3.3V TTL), make sure you have the right driver for Windows 7 installed and you can see the converter in Device Manager (in control panel under Hardware and Sound).

Then read the Troubleshooting Manual if you have more problems http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/147532-fga-for-the-seagate-720011-drives/ especially point 4 and 5.

Also do a loopback test to make sure you can talk to your hdd BEFORE connecting it to your hdd.

Hello,

I have a Seagate 7200.11 500GB hard drive with this bloody failure. I managed to buy a CA-42 cable and connected it. The hdd is powered with a pcb from an external USB-SATA-controller. I am using Putty. I also can establish a connection, but then I get the following messages:

F3 T>/8

F3 8>Z

LED:000000CE FAddr:00280565

LED:000000CE FAddr:00280565

LED:000000CE FAddr:00280565

F3 T>/1

F3 1>

TNRERR F 34 S 80

TNRERR F 27 S 80

F3 1>N1

LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF63

LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF63

LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF63

LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF63

LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF63

LED:000000CC FAddr:0025BF63

I guess it is in the BSY state as the latest message is coming periodically. I also tried entering the commands in level 8, but with the same result.Does anybody have an idea? is my drive damaged?

Thanks in advance!

Tom

Hello guys,

I did everything right, only powering the HDD with the usb controller was no good idea. by means the USB SATA controller was blocking my RS232 connection. I connected the HDD to my computer and then everything went fine. Even my data was still available.

Thank you very much!

When all else fails, read the instructions biggrin.gif

Glad you managed to fix it. thumbup.gif

I followed the instructions for fixing the seagate 7011 drive - size = 0.

I entered the following

F3 T>m0,2,2,0,0,0,0,22

And should have received this:

Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 00, Max Certify Rewrite Retries = 0000

User Partition Format 5% complete, Zone 00, Pass 00, LBA 00008DED, ErrCode 00000080, Elapsed Time 0 mins 05 secs

User Partition Format Successful - Elapsed Time 0 mins 05 secs

I received this:

Max Wr Retries = 00, Max Rd Retries = 00, Max ECC T-Level = 00, Max Certify Rewrite Retries = 0000

User Partition Format Successful - Elapsed Time 0 mins 00 secs

Then returned to the F3 T> prompt.

The fix did not work. It did not format the partition. I still have the LBA = 0 error.

Any suggestions?

Try again from the beginning.

Wait some time AFTER the F3 T>/2 BEFORE issuing the F3 2>Z. (30 seconds or 60 seconds may do )

do you have a list for commands and means or where can i find the command and means for seagate and other hdd's.

Yes (for Seagate), but they probably won't help you.

Here:

http://forum.hddguru.com/seagate-terminal-commands-t6411-40.html

http://forum.hddguru.com/seagate-7200-terminal-commands-t11926.html

http://files.hddguru.com/download/Datasheets/Seagate/Seagate%20Diagnostic%20RS-232%20Port/

This is "strange":

1- power on hdd with plastic card

2- open hyperterminal and adjust the parameters

3- press CTRL + Z

4- it shows F3 2>

5- type /2 and enter again

6- wait 1 min.s

7- type Z and enter again .

When you enter the CTRL+Z you should be at:

F3 T>

and NOT ALREADY at:

F3 2>

(and if you are already at F3 2> there is no need to change to that level with /2 [ENTER])

Power off everything, remove the plastic card, power on, wait it spins or 30/60 seconds or more (to make sure it initializes "normally"), power off, reapply the plastic card, and retry.
