JootFish
Hi Folks,I'm having some serious difficulty getting a fully automated installation working due to immediate XP Activation requests. I am creating the build from what I'm pretty sure is a genuine OEM XP SP2 Cd (It's an old copy) & slipstreaming SP3 with NLite(And a whole lot of patches and applications). The key is genuine.Issues:1. No keya) The installation asks me for one before getting to the desktop login (both with & skipping OOBE).2. With Key & Normal OOBEa) Installation asks for display settings change (regardless of whether I have selected display settings in NLite or not).B) I get to the login screen, enter the password, wait a while, hear the login sound, but before the login screen (welcome) disappears and the desktop process starts, I receive the following: 'This copy of windows must be activated before you can log on...'3. With Key, Skipped OOBEa) Same as 2b (2a is skipped)If I change the CD Key (via the Phone activation option), I can get the 30 day trial happening. NLite config is below. Many thanks for reading![Main]Env = 1.4.9.1 - 2.0.50727.1433.Microsoft Windows NT 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3Target = Windows XP Professional SP3 - 5.1.2600.5512 - English (United States)[Tasks]Remove Kelsenellenelvian
DO you mean "OEM" as in came with a peice of hardware (Like a motherboard)OR "OEM" as in from Dell, Gateway, whatever....If it is the second then it will not work with nLite well at all. traumphase
hi jootfish,i experienced something near it with nlite and/or creating xp on a vista system. nlite (1.4.9.1) seems to imply files from vista system instead of using the given files and directories.use a running windows xp system to create the disc and maybe you go the steps up to sp3 + updates manually instead using software for it. at least you should know if its nlite which makes the mess!check your pidgen.dll. the new ones reject my oem key (my key is original and never used twice, not blackliste and works with the sp1!)cheerztraum
JootFish
Thanks for your reply. I'll try this out over the next few days and post an update.
JootFish
No joy there... I'll imagine it must be an issue with my source CD as others don't see seem to have the same probs. Thanks for your helps!
engjcowi
Hi JootfishI have had similar issues with a retail version of pro andnlie. when i selected settings nlite never carried them out. i have eventually come up with a way that works for me and i have also used it with a oem home version although the activation is manual at the end. I use a clean XP (pro, home or oem) source and all of my sources already have sp2 installed. I use ryanvm integrgator to slipstream sp3 and his site also has some great other addons such as flash player, shockwave, direct x and a post sp3 update pack that i then integrate using the same program into my source. i then test it in virtual pc and if all is ok then i open up nlite and use it just to select components, langages, keyboards to remove and set up my theme i want, integrate specific drivers etc...i have always found that it never quite sets up the users properly or the screen size. so my final step is opening it all up in windows unattended cd creator and then set up my users and set my screen size etc (this program does it properly) (sorry nuhi no offence intended just this is what ive found). i also use this program to get windows to run windows post installer prorgam when its finished installing to add any extra programs i want.hope this helps. if you figure out how to fully automate oem activation let me know pls
JootFish
Hey Engjcowi,Thanks for your response and tips... I also have probs with the screen res, so I'll try that out! I've just spent a few days beating apps (grumble gripe) into shape for WPI which is generally working quite well.OTOH, I setup NLite with a genuine CD-Key again & XP activation is no longer being bastardicle I usually use a possibly dodgy key (I can't remember where I got it from) on the build disk instead of 'my ones' so I don't have probs by accidentally leaving it on someone elses machine I build. Whether I typed it wrong in the prior test, or have pulled out some patches or apps from the NLite that made the difference I don't know.Cheers! engjcowi
Hi jootfishI like the idea about the key for use on other peoples machines.whilst fishing around my computerin search of addons i noticed a file i had, i searched the forums and found it here http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showto...p;p=796961& about half way down someone created a program you could possibly use. if you run it in wpi at the end of your installation (you could possibly automate it using autoit as well) it allows you to change the owner details, change the cd key used and also its apparently performs an online registration. Ive not used the Registration part myself as i possibly have a less than reputable key myselflet me knwo how you get on
JootFish
Just tried Windows Unattend CD Creator from http://www.vitaligraf.de/en/?Projects:Wind...reator:DownloadBut when I choose 'Select' for the Source CD, It pops up a window without the choosables... ie: It says select windows disk etc or directory, but there are only grey contents (no words etc) until the bottom which says 'Make new Folder'.I haven't rebooted, and I have put a whole lot of crap on this machine in the last two weeks while making this boot system, so it's probably something 'special' just for me, but if you've had this too, let me know! JootFish
Thanks for the activation tip & link too. I already know a few ways but that one is very streamlined Side note: I use AHK mostly (the community is so quick and helpful), but both are fabby. engjcowi
hi sorry no, not had that problem. i know it sounds strange and is prob a bit ocd but when im making a new disk i always put a fresh normal install on my pc, running along side my other os and just install the progs and tools i need, i know then that there are no corruptions or file problems and especially no viruses.
