srk999
Today I got my WD Cavair Green in mail. This is my first SATA drive. My first question is, are SATA HDDs plud-n-play? Or do I need to do something to make XP recognize it? I am already using an external SATA drive via USB.Second question is, the drive has three jumper settings written on it like in the image: http://media.bestofmicro.com/V/Q/52982/ori...green-label.jpgthe settings are: SSC(Spread Spectrum Clocking), PUIS(Power Up in Standby) and 1.5GB PHYWhich of these features are really necessary and harmless? At the moment I have only 2 spare jumpers handy. So I can pick a max of 2 settings.Any help would be appreciated. Edited November 25, 2008 by srk999
puntoMX
You don´t need any jumpers on that one unless your motherboard has an older chipset that is only SATA 1.5Gb/s then you would be better of placing the PHY jumper. What chipset are you using any way? It's a G1S-A1. Never thought of checking the eSATA speed before today. It seems to be 3.0GB/s.BTW, I initialized it with Windows' Disk Management. And everything seems to be fine. No jumper. Had to test it out in my existing enclosure, that houses another hdd. so, I am waiting for another enclosure via mail.
