LCD Monitor Stands? Is There A Such Thing As Generic LCD Stand?

We are a company that is looking into buying a large lot of broken lcd monitors... we have the tech's here that can do on board repairs and get the back working no problem but none of them have stands.

Also we were watching on eBay lcd monitors that were broken that didnt have stands but were going for pretty cheap. We are a nonprofit business so we try and keep cost low on anything that we do have to buy.

But what would you suggest? The large lot would be a huge mix of brands, sizes etc. so would we be able to find stands to hold 90% of them you think? Or would it be better to buy smaller lots of 2's and 5's and find the stands on eBay to fit them then?

Some monitors have a VESA mount, but that is often part of their normal stand assembly, and might have been removed with the stands. You can buy all sorts of VESA mounts, but those are usually designed more for wall mounting. What I've done before is used plastic zip-ties to attach the monitor to something, but that's only going to work where the monitor and whatever's behind the monitor have somewhere to be attached. Pretty much all monitors have their own proprietary stands though, so you might be out of luck with that.

  • 2 weeks later...

just to get a better understanding... from what i see here with the lcd monitors we have most of them seem to have a square fitting (or stand mount) and some do have unique fittings but i should be ok if i get a vesa 50/100/150/200 mount for general stand purposes?

(note: were getting stands to use these on desk and not on walls :sneaky: )

to be a VESA mount it has to meet certain standards:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vesa_mount

some monitors will have additional screwpoints and bracket mount points that are not part of VESA standard but still accept a VESA mount.

Example:

full page: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/moni...pt/EN/about.htm

the screw holes marked 4 in this image are the VESA mount holes

Dell uses the 2 light gray notches between the top 2 VESA point holes and the button marked 3 to mount their included stand but these are not used when the monitor is VESA mounted.
