krose Posted April 6, 2009 Posted April 6, 2009 (edited) KB909520 is an optional non-critical update on my XP SP3 and 2K SP4 machines. Edited April 6, 2009 by krose
tommyp Posted April 6, 2009 Author Posted April 6, 2009 Let's give this update a few days to see if it's true. There are plenty of occasions that things like this happen. On top of it all, I don't see why a hotfix from 2005 is coming to light many years later. I plan on updating the list after patch Tuesday.
tain Posted April 11, 2009 Posted April 11, 2009 I plan on updating the list after patch Tuesday.Yay! I am getting my HFSLIP config converted from 2000 to XP and plan on implementing sometime post-Tuesday.
mukke Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Hi, just noticed that the DirectX link still points to the november redistributable. Here you go for the current version. Cheers
tommyp Posted April 12, 2009 Author Posted April 12, 2009 Thanks for the update mukke. To all - Question 1 - Is KB909520 a valid update? Or is msft pulling our leg?Question 2 - Can someone compile a list of IE8 updates?
GrofLuigi Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Is KB909520 a valid update? It's a valid update BUTOr is msft pulling our leg?seems like that to me: they're trying to push their new (vista+) 'way' of doing things. So the real question is:whether exist any hardware (smart card) that requires this new functionality and wouldn't work without it (won't work the old way)?GL
bfc_xxx Posted April 12, 2009 Posted April 12, 2009 Thanks for the update mukke. To all - Question 1 - Is KB909520 a valid update? Or is msft pulling our leg?Question 2 - Can someone compile a list of IE8 updates?1: I still see KB909520 in WU.2: The only update for IE8 is KB968220
wela Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 "1: I still see KB909520 in WU."I see this file, too. It is Optional, Validation required. Don´t know why MS offers this old file
GrofLuigi Posted April 13, 2009 Posted April 13, 2009 Don´t know why MS offers this old file Because you have a smard card reader?GL

Saladin Posted April 16, 2009 Posted April 16, 2009 Ah, patch week....Acheron, minor thing, but I think you have a might have a couple of typos in your april changelog list...Shouldn't the list go like this?Add April 2009 security updates:KB961373 - Vulnerability in Microsoft DirectShow Could Allow Remote Code Execution (supersedes KB951698)KB963027 - Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (supersedes KB963027 KB961620)KB960803 - Vulnerabilities in Windows HTTP services could allow remote code executionKB956572 - Vulnerabilities in Windows Could Allow Elevation of Privilege (supersedes KB960419,KB960496 KB956841)KB952004 - Vulnerabilities in Windows Could Allow Elevation of PrivilegeKB959426 - Blended threat vulnerability in SearchPath could allow elevation of privilege (supercedes KB935839)KB923561 - Vulnerabilities in WordPad and Office Text Converters Could Allow Remote Code ExecutionKB890830 - Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool v2.9 (supercedes v2.8)(great - the one person who's responded to my other post regarding the gpl and hfslip (my first post), and my second one is to turn around and try correct something they've done. Oh yeah, I'm winning the 'most popular on this forum' award for sure...<grin>)
Brimborium Posted April 17, 2009 Posted April 17, 2009 (edited) There seems to be a problem with Windows 2000 and the new DX9 hotfix (KB961373): hfslip 1.7.9_beta_h doesn't seem to recognize it as DX-specific while slipstreaming, i.e. unlike KB951698-v2 it will be extracted like a normal hotfix, and is also offered on Microsoft Update afterwards. The rest of this week's patchday seems to work fine though. My config:Win2k Pro GermanIE6 SP1 + WMP 6.4DX9c original releaseMDAC 2.81 SP1MSXML 4.0 SP2 + 6.0 SP2 Edited April 17, 2009 by Brimborium
