Bootable WIndows Ultimate

I bought Windows Ultimate through my school. Instead of receiving a CD/DVD, it was a download -- 3 files.

Can I use CDImage to put these files onto a bootable DVD, and, seeing as how I can be a bit slow, is the help file pretty clear on the steps?

When you run it, it has to be where it can write, because it (the exe) expands.

So right now, you can only run it as an upgrade from within Windows. So you can't get a "clean install."

Yup. Through school. I had found http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/winvi...grade_clean.asp where Paul Thurrott spells out how to "clean install" Vista from an upgrade, but I think that it requires the "standard upgrade" dvd, because these files only seem to work when run from within Windows, because when they expand etc. they must need to write somewhere, and I couldn't figure how to make it work running them from a hard drive directory.

But I thought I'd at least try it on a bootable dvd.

I recognise those three file names. They're the same as if you buy Vista from Windows Marketplace:

When you buy Windows Vista from Marketplace you will be able to download three files: VistaSetupPrep.exe, boot.wim and install.wim. The two .wim files are the bulk of the download (for the 32-bit version they are ~116 MB and ~2.2 GB respectively) and contain the stuff that actually gets installed. VistaSetupPrep.exe is smaller (for 32-bit this is ~74 MB) and contains the files necessary to actually do the install.

Then read the complaints made in the comments because, apparently this can NOT be turned into an ISO and can NOT be made to run from a DVD. Even worse, if you downloaded the 64-bit edition you can't install it from a 32-bit XP. Ever. At all.

Please note that the .exe file name is different, so your mileage may vary....
