network between xp and vista

hi . i have 2 computers

1- desktop (xp)

2-laptop(vista)

by connecting them ,with these parameters

vista- IP address: 10.1.1.1

Subnet mask:255.255.255.0

Default gateway: 10.1.1.2

XP-IP address: 10.1.1.2

Subnet mask:255.255.255.0

Default gateway: 10.1.1.1

note - the same domain (workgroup) and network in vista is seted as privat

in the result vista can see the sshared file of xp ,but xp can`t see the shared file of vista .

note also. that when entring in network envirement in xp ,by browsing it .appear the computer (vista ) but by clicking in it ...appear message you have`nt permission

how i can resolve this problem ?

On vista, under network and sharing center, is file sharing turned on? if so expand it and check the other options within.

Because you can share files without the public folders being on - and with us not knowing where you put your file....

pardon my ignorance but if you are using a cross over cable, do you need a gateway? i thought gateway was for routers.

if so, that may be your problem.

i have my two desktops connected with a network cable and i have assigned them a static IP without a gateway and do not have a problem.
