m99 Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 Does nLite work with MicroXP?Removing components and creating a new image seems to work, but I have'nt tried to install it.Maybe MicroXP is warez, but I will use my legitimate serial with it.
newsposter Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 microXP is indeed warez so no support for that or any mods here......Doesn't matter if you own a legit key, the distro of microXP itself is warez.
m99 Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 Is there any (easy) way to make your own legit "MicroXP"?
MCT Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 (edited) by microXP im guessing u mean a slimmer version of XP?if so , then use nlite on a clean source (full XP disc) shouldnt use nlite with a source thats already been nlite'd or slimmed down, cuz u might get errors Edited October 28, 2008 by MCT
Nick_White Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 MicroXP is made with nLite by removing components and others. You can make your own "legit" MicroXP by removing unnecessary components (to you).
m99 Posted October 28, 2008 Author Posted October 28, 2008 MicroXP has removed much more than you can do with nLite, and has done some hacking to.My question is actually, will nLite undo what eXPerience has done?
MCT Posted October 28, 2008 Posted October 28, 2008 it wont undo it, but it could cause some unneeded errors maybe
ccl0 Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 (edited) Is there any (easy) way to make your own legit "MicroXP"?umm.. use nlite nothing i've seen that cant be done using nlite. Edited October 29, 2008 by ccl0
m99 Posted October 29, 2008 Author Posted October 29, 2008 Just tried a quick installation on a old HD before I go to bed, everything seems to work, but there is still more to remove, why is e.g. Flash there? But that will be a quest for tomorrow ;-)

TranceEnergy Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 Removing components is useless to a certain point, as in components that cant otherwise be disabled or such easily, then it's possibly the only way. Luckily i haven't met anything that can't be disabled yet. Which is nice. What really matters concerning boot time and such is apart from hardware, size of registry, inf files and language files, especially nls files, and most importantly, drivers. There's a whole pile of s*** that can be removed and or disabled even after you have removed everything with nlite.
GrofLuigi Posted October 29, 2008 Posted October 29, 2008 There's a whole pile of s*** that can be removed and or disabled even after you have removed everything with nlite.I just found another one: MediumCache. It's huge on every PC I've seen* and can be deleted with no ill effects. But it gets rebuilt often.I really should publish my finds somewhere. GL*don't have long enough pole to touch Vista

I actually installed trial version on this new laptop I'm toying with, that has the advantage of having blank HDD. While I can see that some people can get away with it and actually use it for something (when it lets go off their hand ), it's definitely not for me.Being a tweaker as I am, I went straight for prefetch/superfetch and brought it down to its knees. Slow as molases. So I decided not to waste my time any more and wiped the hard disk (several times, for good measure ).But enough OT....GL Edited October 29, 2008 by GrofLuigi
