whterbtobj
How can I prevent WINPE from locking the cd-rom drive? I want to be able to eject the cd-rom and reboot the system. I have tried using the RAMDISK and it works. However, I have systems that only have 128MB of RAM. Therefore RAMDISK is not an options. I'm also required to use WINPE version 1.6.It it possible to exit WINPE and enther DOS mode? that way WINPE would release the CD-ROM drive. jaclaz
Actually you should be able to boot with Ramdisk on a 128 Mb system, if you really slim the booting part and boot in Ramdisk a NTFS compressed image, with a hardlink to another .img on the CD.There is NO DOS in PE, there is cmd.exe.Search on 911CD board for posts by Sanbarrow and Pavel, they use this method for some builds.A recent thread on boot-land about this specific topic:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?...ic=5958&hl=(though no one-size-fits-all-solution yet)jaclaz

jaclaz
On second thought, you may also want to try one of the really "slim" builds:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=4696PicoXP or nativeEX barebone are really small (of course some features are removed).jaclaz
whterbtobj
NTFS compressed may work for me. Can anyone provide more information about it?
whterbtobj
I was able to create a compressed SDI image following there instructions http://www.myitforum.com/articles/8/view.asp?id=8832and I was able to make it small enough to boot off a 128 MB RAM. jaclaz
Just for the record, there is no need of using the .SDI format, (and thus the need for SDIloader from Windows XP embedded).RAW images can be used as well, using the FREEWARE FILEDISK, IMDISK or VDK to mount them.Details are here:http://www.911cd.net/forums//index.php?showtopic=19333An image can be easily created by FILEDISK or IMDISK (for super-floppy images) or by the small batches MBRBATCH/MKIMG (for hd-like images) here:http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=3191http://www.boot-land.net/forums/?showtopic=5000jaclaz
