Slow Network Connections

Hi gang,

I have an issue with a very slow network.

What it is configured like follows:

Server 2003 Domain

XP Pro workstations

Bell Modem

D-Link Router set to DHCP

Netgear Switch

Users connect and it may take up to 1 hour before they have access to the shared folders.

All users have been given full access to all folders yet they still get prompted for their name and password.

There are times when they cannot even log onto the network. It say domain not found.

I have changed servers

I have changed switches

The only thing left is the d-link router or the new cabling done. I am going to set up a laptop directly to the switch to see if it is the wiring.

BTW: The server is connected directly to the router not the switch.

The router is the gateway and the DHCP ....

Any thoughts as where to go to get this systems back to normal speed.....

I would set the Server to dish out DHCP

Make sure that the clients are receiving DNS from the server (and that the clients are given the server's DNS IP address)

I would also connect the router to the switch NOT the server

The clients should be given the router IP address as their default gateway

It doesn't sound like a cabling issue either
