WINSXS folder, how to stop it growing

I just did a vlite install of vista64 sp1. everything went great, after installing apps etc i had about a 3.5 gig vista installation.

I then connected to windows update and installed about 100 meg of updates, after a restart my vista install is now over 7gig and the winsxs folder has grown from just over 1 gig to 4.5 gig.

Is this right? can it be stopped ? why did it grow so much after just 100 meg of updates ?

thanks for any help or info.

Caelen, you can't stop it growing. WinSxS contains all versions of components that have been updated. It is done for better compatibility: if application uses older version of component, it can use it from WinSxS folder. If you remove this folder, you won't be able to use some programs and Windows Update.
