USB Stick won't boot though USB_MultiBoot_10.cmd completed without

Recommended Posts

I just bought a new computer for my wife, and since it came with Vista Home, I had plans to plop in my Win XP SP2 OEM CD, repartition and reformat the hard drive, and give her a usable computing experience. Unfortunately, I failed to notice that her new mini laptop had no CD drive. So I searched the internet and came across this forum, which made me very excited.

I downloaded USB_MultiBoot_10.zip, extracted and ran the batch file, successfully formatting and loading the necessary files onto my Iomega Mini 1GB USB stick. But when I first booted to the USB stick I just got a blank screen, with a blinking cursor, like what is described elsewhere on this forum "USB_MultiBoot 10 Key - Solutions to a few problems" (http://www.msfn.org/board/USB-MultiBoot-10-Key-Solutions-to-a-fe-t120928.html). Much thanks to the user who posted this solution. Unfortunately, it only got me one step farther.

Now when I choose either option "1. Begin TXT Mode Setup Windows XP." or "Attended Setup XP." I get the normal Windows Setup blue screen (very exciting), which after setup finishes loading drivers says "Setup is starting Windows" along the bottom, but then crashes with a blue screen of death (STOP: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524, 0xC0000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)). Does anyone have any idea what could be going wrong? Thanks a million for any help using this fabulous tool.

Read FAQ-3 http://www.msfn.org/board/FAQs-t116766.html

Read USB_MultiBoot_10\Help_Info\Help_USB_MultiBoot.txt -

Integrate in your XPSOURCE BTS DriverPack Massstorage with TXT Mode Enabled

If this not helped use Hex_NTDETECT_COM.txt as described below.

A. ***** Most Frequently Encountered User ERRORS *****

7. BSOD 0x0000007B during text mode of Setup.

On some motherboards USB booting is tricky, common example are many Dell systems.

You may try the modified ntdetect.com as mentioned here Or use File Hex_NTDETECT_COM.txt

http://www.msfn.org/board/0x0000007B-Blue-...0.html&st=3

Copy and paste all in Tiny Hexer (freeware), select HEX TEXT,

save as ntdetect.com and put it in USB stick root, filesize must become 47,596 bytes.

Enabling AHCI in a system BIOS will cause a 0x7B Blue Screen of Death STOP error (INACCESSIBLE_BOOT_DEVICE)

on installations of Windows XP where AHCI/RAID drivers for that system's chipset are not installed.

AHCI enables hot-plugging of SATA drives and requires for XP special drivers. Vista is AHCI compatible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Host...oller_Interface

Solution: Before Install Change your SATA BIOS Setting from AHCI into IDE Controller or Compatibility

For Install of XP on a modern system with SATA Drives

it is needed to use DPsBase.exe http://driverpacks.net/DriverPacks/

for Integrating in your XPSOURCE BTS DriverPack Massstorage with TXT Mode Enabled.

In that case a lot of Extra RAID SCSI and SATA Drivers (about 120 extra) are Integrated which appear in the

$WIN_NT$.~BT XP BootFolder and can prevent a lot of XP Install Boot Problems

Succes,
