I take it you are aware that the free version only closes ports, rather than stealthing them like XP's built in firewall does?

Yep. But in conjunction with the hardware firewall in the router this is more than enough for my needs. It is small and lightweight unlike other firewalls eg Comodo (a good free firewall which i use on my Vista machine) and ZA.
