Skype and Gimp should work without kernellX. At least version from 6 months ago did.

!? Sure, Gimp 1.x works without the extension, but what's the lastest 2.x version that still works? Wasn't GTK+ an issue?

The latest version of Winamp has an error with KEX4. Installed with a few details, but finally installed. After installation, it runs a setup program for Winamp, which it hangs at the end. And it's consuming all CPU.

I guess if you modify some registry to disallow the run of the configurator, it may run, but i dont know.

Sorry for my bad english!

Wakoopa Works!

For installation needs temporary replacing of [HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion] VersionNumber key to "5.10.2600" to install - DON'T FORGET to change it back!!!

And need change the compatibility mode to "Windows NT 4.0 SP6".

JNES, a relatively-decent NES/Famicom emulator, installs and runs if you set to win2000 or higher.

Note, with the most recent release I had to select any language but english to avoid a fatal error. If you want english, use the ??? setting just above it, which is most likely default.

+_+

Also, the newest GIMP (2.4.6 or something like that) does install but pops up a wonderful error screen filled with little square placeholder boxes. Maybe it doesn't like unicows?

Really? I think the last version running on 98SE/ME is 2.2.17 which is way older than 6 months.

I could never run a version higher than that one with or without KernelEx.

Yes, Skype (without video) install with MSI (!) install pack without KernelEx. I provide this version:

New version MSI Skype - Skype 4.0 for Windows Business version with (MSI)
