Tried to convert MSDN XP HOME SP3 from retail to vlk

I copied the following files from an MSDN XP PRO sp3 vlk:

DPCDLL.DL_
OEMBIOS.BI_
OEMBIOS.CA_
OEMBIOS.DA_
OEMBIOS.SI_
PIDGEN.DLL
SETUPP.INI

I get the following error on first logon - "The product key is not valid for this media type please use the correct installation cd to reinstall windows ERROR CODE:0x80040509"

thought this method was supposed to work, so what else can I try?

You also need:
SETUPREG.HIV

EULA.TXT

May work after that.

tried that too along with another file thats name goes like nt...cat

it made even a worse response in the beggining of the gui part of setup...

Is it legal to attempt to convert media to VLK, presumably to avoid product activation?

No it´s not, and it´s well stated in the "MSFN law" too:

1. This is not a warez site! Links/Requests to warez and/or illegal material (porn, cracks, serials, etc..) will not be tolerated. Discussion of circumventing WGA/activation/timebombs/keygens or any other illegal activity will also not be tolerated. You will be banned without notice.
