How to install Windows from USB- WinSetupFromUSB with GUI

Recommended Posts

I have been using this to make bootable flash drives for a couple years now and its great stuff.

Today however I have been trying to use it and getting an error.

I've tried 1.0b8, b7, and .23 all of them produce an AutoIt error upon opening, here is the b8 error:

Line 27623 Error: The requested action with this object has failed.

I am running Windows 7 64-bit and have tried both versions of b8, the error is the same.

b7 says line 7932.

I tried to search this thread for AutoIt Error but didn't find anything that seemed relevant.

Since I'm really just making basic Windows 7/8 flash drives I suppose I could go get the M$ one but I figured I'd at least ask here for anything I could try.

I know you may want to see the log file, it barely prints anything out to it before erroring out so here it is

Hello again

I'm going to tell you the steps i have made:

1) Winsetupfromusb with options:

Auto format it with Fbinst, NTFS, Align

Section "Add to USB DISK"

Windows 2000/XP/2003 Setup Checked and the correct drive with an iso mounted inside the textbox

Windows Vista / 7 ... Setup Checked and the correct drive with an iso mounted inside the textbox

2) Start the process

3) Try each installation

- On Windows XP, when i started the second part of the installation it get hanged when the installation said "39 minutes left"

- On Windows 7, it get hanged when the installation reached the Blue Screen of the installation beginning.

It seems WinSetupfromUSB have a problem detecting the USB pendrive

Is there another way to do this Multiboot?

Thanks

Most likely you have problem elsewhere- the USB disk, the hardware on the target machine or something relevant.

It seems WinSetupfromUSB have a problem detecting the USB pendrive

What do you mean? The issues you are experiencing have nothing to do with detecting or not the USB disk, not to mention that during Setup process the program is not running at all, thus is not detecting anything...

You might also want to try with other Windows sources, as always preferably unmodified ones.

Also good idea is to keep the antivirus program turned off while preparing the USB disk.

I have tried another source and all went ok.

Now i'm thinking about how may i put two different sources of Windows XP (one clean and another modified) to install one or other depending on the situation

May anyone help me?

Thanks

You can put up to 10 for 0.X.X versions and up to 99 for 1.0 versions of Windows 2000/XP/2003 Setup. Just add them one after another the same way you put the first one, nothing special, program does everything needed. No need to restart the program either.

All this is also in a tooltip, if you hold the mouse over the Windows XP/2000/2003 Setup checkbox. Similar information is displayed for almost every element in the GUI, it might be a good idea to have a look or two.

Read the first post and the links within if you need multiple Vista/7/8/Server 2008 sources in the same partition.

Hey,

i cant install W7 with my lexar usb stick

right now i have added Win7 aio to one of my partitions

i made a screenshot, i think i dont need to translate the message or?

the strange thing is, with exact the same steps and partition setup, installing throw my USB DISK works, does it needs some extra steps when installing throw usb stick?

the log file is pretty big but it looks just okay, no errors i just snipped the last steps

Is the removable bit flipped on this USB stick so it shows as a hard/fixed disk?

Or are you using a filter driver to show it as a hard disk? If that's the case, the Windows being installed also needs such driver to be able to see the other partitions, not only the first one...

Does the same happen when Windows setup files are put in the first partition?

Aaah okay so i need to integrate the filter driver which i used and it should work?

the first partition is just 2GB small, so its to small for W7

i will try to integrate the driver and will report here!

Just for the record, it seems that besides cfadisk.sys and dummydisk..sys also this other driver DiskMod (actually developed to allow having pagefile.sys on *any* volume):

http://reboot.pro/9461/

can do the trick.

i integrated diskmod 0.0.2.2 with winkit but no luck :(

also tried with dummydisk to copy dummy.sys in sys32 folder and dummy.reg to execute, all with winkit

cfadisk doesnt work too

hmm this isnt a good solution anyway since i want w7 as clean as possible
